Hi there, I'm looking for a fuel gauge for a 1970 Dormobile. For some reason our's has stopped working and cant seem to find an original one anywhere.

Dont suppose anyone's got one lying around collecting dust?

cheers Miche

Hi there, Thats the one but we are still having problems detecting the source of the prob, we have a feeling it could be the wiring leading to the gauge as we tested another on last nite and that didn't work either. On the red wire leading to the gauge we got power but on the brown cable to the gauge we got nothing. just hoping it's not the bloody sender unit as I gather the gauge and the sender has to be replaced and thats a big job ( I think) not that I will be doing it, thats up to my hubby

cheers

Changing the sender is a pain & only done with the engine out, mine gives vague reading...when the tanks full it only reads 3/4 on the gauge , but I've learned to live with VW petrol gauges being incorrect as the one on my buggy sometimes sticks at 1/2 then drops to empty when you go over a big bump.
Let me know if you want gauge & I'll pop it in the post.

Check out the earth from the sender to the body - it's a brown wire behind the engine screwed to the body. They often corrode a bit and stop the gauge working. Clean up the tag and the body tin - you might just be lucky.
