What have you done to lower your bay?

I've just been to FBI to collect some bits for my bus and they have a customers bay there that's been fitted with 2 1/2" dropped spindles and is running 15" split steels. It's made a hell of a difference but I don't think it's low enough for me.

The guys there seam to think that as my bus is an early '68, I can fit the trailing arms from a late split straight into the beam, then fit king & link dropped spindles which will bring the bus down 3 1/2". If this is correct, anyone got a set of late split trailing arms they want to sell?

I don't think you can do this dude :( The diameter of the tubes are different. The bolt pattern for a 68 is the same as a 64-67 split so you bolt a split beam straight on without needing to change the end plates. You could maybe make up custom bushes for the narrower K&L pin arms to go in the larger diameter bj beam but it would be cheaper just to buy a K&L beam.

K&L drop spindles are not cheap either, probably around £350... type 2 detectives do them. Arms would be £30 to £45 and you would also need a good set of king pins and maybe a pitman arm if you plan to lower the beam at all as the one you have will foul after about 4-5".

Hope this helps dude

Drilled and turned beam, narrowed 88mm with Audi 200 turbo wheels and 175/55-15 tyres.Already had the rims, but with new balljoints, trackrod ends, centre pin idler, endplates, tubes machined for going inside torsion tubes when cut, draglink, shockers and tyres, total outlay approx £220.

I've got a Red9 lowering kit - just to be controversial

;)

well? tell us some more? did you strenghten the towers? what bolts did you use on the coil overs? any fouling? and what height are you set at?

I fitted dropped spindles at the weekend.

The ride is excellent compared to just using adjusters, I'd recommend them, although you migh have a few tyre scrubbing issues if you go too low like I did.

how low are the adjusters set??

im going adjusters and spindles, was thinking of using 175/55/15s on gas burners up front, think they will be ok??

Adjusters are now set little less than half way. Tyre still scrub.

I'd go for 165/55/15s if I were you, mytyres.co.uk were selling them for about £34 each delivered.
175 might be ok as a lot of Porsche wheels have massive tuck, but I'm not 100% sure that's the case with Gas Burners.

the gasburnes have a 20 offset, so hopefully 175/55s wont scrub

That would be mine. :D I like the height for the moment and the steels look better than the standard 14's

sorry fellas aint been on a while

the wagenswest spindles dropped it about what they should 2.5 - 3 inches. Tyres are stock 185/75s
