sounds like you eat alot of cake, maybe we could build up some sort of leader table, give away a cup at the end of the year and some vouchers to weight watchers :D

anyway, nuff said, hope enough 'offending' ( :p ) people have read this now and aren't quite so harsh on the next first time poster.

feel free to lock this thread should you wish

well... we can look on the bright side, at least we got you posting! :D

now... what kind of wheels have you got? :p 8)

...and by 'Newbie' I meant 'new poster', not new to the forum or new to forums in general.

I guess I just meant that from your thread title, you couldn't expect us not to defend ourselves.

Anyway, I stand by my opening comment- Welcome!!

tell us about your van. I've got a 71 Cali import Westy with a 2110cc stroker engine.

Nearly posted a massive ramble then  didnt as it would offend.

Lets just say please think, re read and keep to yourself your thoughts as i WILL take offence and that will be a sharp response.

So lets drag out the choccy cake and get eating! mines the bit with the icing! :D

Hay All...... "Live an let live"
Ibought my first bus a month ago after wanting and loving them for yonks, happy as pig in s**t.
Joined early bays and happy with this too you all semm like a good bunch but why do all owners slate differant type of van owners.
Splitters slate bays, early bays slate late bays, late bays slate flat screens.
people that build theres slate people that buy one done...
Mad... oneupmanship stinks, enjoy them an live an let live....

cause by nature we are a race of animals that needs to be in groups, I am guessing that is why.

I'm in two minds about the whole first post being a for sale ad. I can understand some people think it's courteous to drop by the chat/general section and say hello first, like they say it does only take 15 seconds. But I can also see the viewpoint that if you've got something to sell to others that may be of interest to them then why do you need to say hello. You're doing them a favour after all.

I can also see Johnny's point though about people who only post in the sale section can be slightly off putting bearing in mind the number of scammers about.

You will always get some sort of abuse from any internet forum. Some people think they own the place, ( I am generalising about the internet & EB)
If youlook on VZi (when it works) some people with high post rates, don't have anything better to do than worry about other people & what they think.

I got slated for saying a standard ride height bay with alloys looked gay & I was talking about my own van! I was not allowed to degrade gay people.

Pete, I was one of the people that pulled you up on this comment, and I still stand by it. Basically it came across that you felt standard height bays on alloys was wrong, and you compared this to being gay. Now whether you've got one post or 20000 posts the comment you made could and was deemed as being homophobic. If you don't like standard height bays on alloys fair enough, but there was no need for the 'gay' comment.

Similarly in the comment you've made above it sounds like you feel you're being condemned for not being allowed to degrade gay people?! Now I'm all for freedom of speech, but come on, do you really want to go on a forum that actively encourages such discrimination?

If I remember rightly this was one of your first posts, http://forum.earlybay.com/viewtopic.php?t=2826 you got a lot of interesting aircooled's there dude, which one is the keeper? or is there another one that you hold special?

gay means happy, so well he thinks im happy....hahaha but yet he doesn't like them, but i agree I dont like them either but then i do, i just love all vw's if i had the money i would be very gay, but really i think this thread should stop now

SO STOP OR I WILL COME ROUND AND PUT YOUR PANTS OVER YOUR HEAD!

hahaha

As a high-poster on the forum (and one of the members your original post refers to I would imagine) I will happily defend my stance on first-time posters introducing For Sale ads...

For me it's simply a question of manners - I think that a quick hello takes seconds, sets a friendly tone and could also give people an idea about your mindset - you have 'lurked' on the forum for a while (which is great) so hopefully you will also have seen that I make an effort to welcome all new forum members that post a 'hello'...

I enjoy this forum - but I certainly don't think that I own it anymore than I think I own the other members' vans... I do however, think that as someone that spends a bit of time on this (self-regulating) forum I have a responsibility to help moderate it; if the general concensus is that I'm wrong in doing so I will stop immediately and keep my opinions to myself.

I don't want to flame anyone - but I do think that this is a very friendly forum and simply saying hello is an important part of keeping it so.

If you disagree, then well, we'll just have to disagree on it - but, as Easy said in his post, heated debates are rare on this forum. You've successfully rubbed people up the wrong way over this subject - one that has been covered before ad infinitum - I was under the impression that last time this subject was raised the general feeling was that a quick hello was the preferred way of doing things on here?

J&M

;)

Its a tough one riddled with contradiction, Ive seen dealers advertising buses and parts on here, and I guess being self employed they wont have the time to chat about all sorts. Thats seems to be ok? (And I would agree it is).
I wouldnt really like to see a restriction on using the For Sale forum for new members and hadnt really noticed any issue until this thread.

Scammers will get everywhere and it really is buyer beware, if you but off a newbie, then arrange personal delivery/collection, or ask them to do a quick 'Buy It Now' on eBay, pay via Paypal (on a Credit Card) and you'll have 'some' protection.

Nuff said on this one I believe, unless some one wants a fight and all that.
(Chocolate cake at dawn).

as the thread starter i agree enough has been said and my point made.

sure this subject'll be sub consciously making first time posters in the for sale section have an easier life from now on

and saying a van looks gay is just terminology/slang NOT discrimination :p (in my opinion)

Lol, why didn't you SAY so!!

well, i would say i know a good 20% of the users on here..... they just (including you) haven't realised who i am. thats kinda the point i'm trying to make, it shouldn't matter who i am or wether you guys know me or not new members shouldn't be getting a verbal bashing because of the content of their first posts. (unless they're being abusive an then they'd just deserve everything they get!)

anyway since i'm 'out' i'm rob, my first and foremost passion is volkswagens, early bays in particular. my first car at 17 (well 16 actually) was a 1970 danbury conversion reg no ONE 999H. i'm now 23 and after working in several vw related places i now find myself jobless again
i currently own;

1970 bay (first, still got it an love it to death)
1968 nov 8th t2a clipper 'L' (twin slider and steel sunroof) with upright cooled type 4
1971 trekker 11 sec turbo piece of ****
1958 deluxe bug
1958 rag top bug
several fast backs 67 to 70
72 type 4 variant
67 bug
72 marina blue 1200 (stolen but i still own it..... fuckers!)
and various other aircooled and water vw junk

nice to meet you all 8)
