Which Breakdown Recovery / Repair on road Service ?

Was wondering as I'm close to getting back on the road again after a off road resto , which breakdown recovery service you
Earlybay Peeps favour ? RAC ? AA ? Green flag ? Others or none , as plant to do some long drives and may need a help ,
I've had RAC in the years gone by but that was Ten plus years ago.

Ive got European breakdown cover included with my insurance through r h
Had to use it this year in france !
Might be worth looking into before forking out for separate cover

Hi Norm sounds a good call but my main concern is who or what company or service would rock up if you broke down or needed recovery home ?

Adi, I have also used RH for the last 5 years and had to use their recovery services several times!
They use locally available recovery agents and repair specialists rather than a generic green flag or rac type cover.
Although all but one of my breakdowns were unfixable without removing the engine and replacing a major component the relay home service was my preferred option. Really cant fault them for the price I pay per year for insurance and cover and to be honest im not sure an AA or RAC repair man would be much use with a classic engine - its all the luck of the draw.

I’ve been on the big ‘ yellow taxi ‘ twice. And both times I got an independent to rescue me even though I was with the big ones AA and RAC . The RAC got an independent to ferry me home from a show and I booked that eight hours before they showed up but I booked in advance on purpose. Second one was with the AA and they had me waiting for over eleven hours before they called in an independent who got the call and was with me in less than fifteen minutes. This guy said it might be a better idea to just pay an independent instead of paying all the time when you hardly ever need it, I thought this mad a bit of sense. But when you breakdown, it’s just panic stations and ring the AA or the RAC for whoever says they can come out first. It is just an insurance and you don’t see insurance companies going broke too often.

I'm with RH too and used them once or twice I seem to remember, no complaints. I'm also with the AA and he came out for a stuck float (embarrassed) within a reasonable amount of time. I'd always have more than one option.

Have a look at GEM. They don't worry about the age of the vehicle, like some do. They also do a reclaim option, slight cheaper. In the event of a call out, you phone them, they arrange the mechanic, you pay, then claim it back.
I've got a family policy with them, 3 drivers who can claim as driver or passenger in any vehicle, roadside repair and recovery for about £130 if I remember right.

Hi I'm with the AA have had them out to both modern cars, punctures, and also the VW. Completely satisfied with both repairs and time taken to get to different locations. They don't seem to fight shy of older vehicles.

I bank with the nationwide and for 13 pound a month you get a load of different types of insurances included and break down is one of them. I broke down on the a66 in a mates car (he dint have cover) I rang them and they recovered us back to my mates house in donny then dropped me back at mine, it was brill and it includes Europe as well.
