Who makes the best the dropped spindles, not after a huge drop, 2 or 3 inches is fine. Whose would people recommend? thanks.

I would have a good look at the T2D ones, they give a 3.5 inch drop and seem to be the best about to be honest, their kit includes everything you need aswell

WHS :D

The other option at the moment are the Wegenwest ones, as a small consumer compaison =

Cost - just over £300 for Wagenwest vs £650 for T2D (T2D include recon trailing arms with heavy duty specifc ball joints though)

Track - Wagenwest increase track by 24mm overall vs T2D nil track increase

Fabrication - Wagenwest are welded vs T2D are machined. Spindles are heat treated from factory but are not following welding - in reality there are no cases of fatigue known yet.

Ball Joints - Wagenwest use stock VW ball joints - T2D use specific reverse ball joints

Drop - Wagenwest are 2.5" approx vs T2D are 3.5"

Availablity - Wagenwest are usually a month or so wait vs T2D immediate.

Speedo cable - Wagenwest = speedo cable vs T2D = speedo cable

Wheel interferance = Ball joints foul on 14" rim vs T2D no interferance

Pay your money and take your choice. :D

I've got WW 2.5" dropped spindles and they do allow you to use a speedo cable and they only increase track by 12mm per side. I had mine inspected by an ex CAA metalurgist who confirmed the fabrication was spot on. I paid £265 for mine new delivered ($550USD = £330 in todays money).

Nice one - Ive edited my post to reflect that :)

Did you pay import tax? I guess thats a potential cost.

rockand rollcamper - what was your total cost and wait time - so I can update the above?

Cheers :)

No worries,

£290 ish plus taxes of £36 ish. That was obviously buying outright as it wasnt viable to post mine back on an exchange basis. ON top of that I bought 4 new balljoints for £60

Thats the good bit. :D :D

As for waiting time, they were in stock when ordered, (I confirmed this by email beforehand) and still took 2 months to come. That was with me sending the odd email to chase up.

I bought a pair of the Wagenswest spindles.

2.5" drop.
You can use speedo.
12mm offset.
Took approx 6 weeks.
Just over £300 including duties.

This leaves me enough for a new 1" narrowed ball joint beam from East coast slammers to compensate for the offset ( anyone had one of these? )

I know T2D do quality products but this is a significant price difference.

Cheers - comments updated in top post. Just trying to create a realistic comparison. :)

Be intereting to see what transporterhaus sell theres for. They have a special offer on K&L spindles, send them two sets and they will return you a set of lowered spindles FREE.
Wonder if I send them two sets of 72 spindles  the offer stands

Hi guys spoke to Transporterhaus earlier this week and was told:

£499.00 outright
£399.00 exchange

I believe the kit includes:

2 x machined spindles including balljoints
4 x trailing arms

Think they are also offering a 10% discount at the moment.

On the point of lowering I'm getting a bulk load of horseshoe lowering plates together for the rear of your earlybays and they should be well priced. PM me if you're interested, but a proper for sale ad should be going up soon for pre orders.

Cheers

I'm still not comfortable with the T2D ball joints being upside down. Would want to see some cross sectional images before using them.

Paul explained they are tested with a 5 tonne press  thats a shed load more than the sprung weight of a bus ...

The keiftenklok kits are the same/in conjunction with the T2D ones.

The Red 9 kit uses a reverse ball joint on its setup too.

If that's the case then I'm sure they are fine. And at the end of the day Paul is not daft, he must have absolute faith in this product. The personal and litigation issues in the event of a failure would be huge.

This kit sounds like what T2D are offering, but at 399 instead of 650? Thats a big saving if i am understanding this correctly?

Are your horsehoe plates fixed or adjustable? Approx price?

Cheers!
