Hello and happy new year! I'm lining up a few winter repairs and would be grateful for any advice on the following

- typical cost for full underseal treatment?

- what is the best replacement gear shifter and which ones most closely match (at least visually) the original on a 1973 early bay?

Many thanks

Hi
Suppose the underseal treatment depends on witch treatment you go for and methods of application, as there are stacks on the market now

Gear shifter wise CSP seem to have the best feedback but not cheep, I run an empi and replaced all bushes. Pleased with result.

Cheers

@Clem used to offer a wax cavity service so will be able to advise, its a long job but one that's worth it. Also Karlos is currently undersealing his bus in his gallery thread and comments on products....

As for the shifter, best thing is to find out why yours isn't shifting correctly before fitting something else. Aftermarket wise Gene Berg is a lovely shifter but I took my GB off and put the original one back on and it shifts perfectly. I have however changed all the bushes, cleaned out the cup that the shifter ball fits in to, re-greased it all, checked the coupling at the back end is in good shape with new rubber bushes and then finally adjusted the shift plate as per the manual....

Yes, I used to charge £50 a section on waxing - £50 for the externally accessed cavities, £50 for the internally accessed cavities and £50 for an underside coat - plus the materials and labour to remove/refit the interior. That was privateer rates though and a garage would be much more, I’d imagine £500 upwards.

Last one I did provided their own wax which was the most solid wax I ever saw. I had to buy a new applicator gun to cope with it and degrease and repaint the unit floor afterwards. Last bus I did :D
