wiper switch blows fuse

just got new wiper motor from vw heritage
was told easy to convert.

no probs traced wires from old wiper motor. conected to new .
wired up switch bloody easy.(SO I THOUGHT) wiper motor works
soon as i screw switch in dash pop goes a fuse :evil: :evil: :evil: :evil:

have i completly lost the plot or .........

Shagged switch? must be short circuiting to the case of the switch somehow :roll:
