Ok well yesterday I was plodding along in the van and my indicators stopped working, but when I did flick the indicators on my fuel gauge went to zero, so I replaced the fuse and its all ok, no bulbs went or anything, so is that normal :D

Chances are the switch needs a jolly good clean out hence the fuse blowing.... not too difficult a job and usually overdue as they get all manner of crap in there after 40 years of abuse surprisingly the contacts are usually quite robust.
When you say the gauge dropped to zero was that steady zero or intermittant as if the relay was still activating?

Its was steady but it didn't drop to the end as if i turned it off, they do need a damn good clean, maybe one day I will get round to that :D

my petrol gauge usually has a funny 5 mins when it reaches just below the half way mark :?: it suddenly goes mad and then calms down  bless it being old its having funny turns!

just give it a few more years and it will be dead and then you wont have to worry...hehe

Regarding the fuel gauge it would appear its forms part of the same circuitry and just looking at the haynes (I cant find the detailed wiring diagrams probably screwed up in my works van) which aint the best source it would kinda make sense...

Easy, that sounds like your sender has a duff spot as it isnt the easiest piece to swap and you know about its peculiarity leave it till you have the motor/bulkhead out
