Check or replace your fuel lines people  .
Changed mine yesterday, been on there about 18 months.
Looking end on at the hose there were cracks.
They wernt from stretching as i use 6mm and it was all new fuel injection hose that met all the modern car needs.
Better to be safe than sorry.

Cheers

Rich

Machine 7 now have launched a new fuel line bundle that meets EU standards and won't disintegrate after a year :)

Avoid the cheap cloth braided fuel hose!

I'm sure that I have read on this forum that people have used this chap on e-bay

Sorry but I don't understand why.

The fuel pipes on modern cars are not changed every 18 months.

Use the same fuel pipe as used on current cars.

It can be bought from those supplying the garage trade in the area. It's not model specific. It just needs to be the right diameter.

Buying fuel pipe from a company specialised in parts for old cars makes it far more likely to be old stock since they won't have the turnover.

Trikky has made a valid point IMO. When I got my bus it had the 37 year old cloth pipe so it was a bit worse for wear. Fortunately I had some top grade pipe at work left over after Cummins diesel rebuild I did, perks of the job

I picked up a fuel hose kit from VWAircooledWorks, (the guys that do the auto fire extinguisher thing), at Busfest.

It's a 100% Bio Fuel, so good for 25 years. Fuel filter, and all the clips etc.

I think people have got used to changing fuel lines as the cheap cloth stuff has been so prone to 'melting away'.
Once you have the correctly rated fuel line fitted then regular checks should be enough :)

Also worth checking the clips are still nice and tight occasionally.

Has a big fuel whiff coming home from work the other day,11pm..dark and raining..shall I ignore it?...

Pulled over, luckily had a light, opened up and found fuel was pouring from where the pipe goes on my left carb!! Clip had come a little loose.

I had only changed the lines a few months ago for peace of mind!

Agreed. When the hose is new it can compress after a bit so new pipes need re checking.

This will be much worse if the new fuel pipe is not the right size. This and old stock tubing are the main causes of problems.

New fuel pipes should be a tight push fit and the clip is extra security. If you need to tighten the clip to make it fuel tight, when you first fit it, then the diameter of your new pipe is too large.

Another thing worth checking while your there is that the brass carb inlet pipe is secure in the top of the carb. These carbs are getting old now and age/corrosion can sometimes cause them to become loose.

That is something I am seriously considering for next year!

There are issues with lpg as well, look into ti before you leap. I know of a garage that has taken a fair few out because they were causing problems.

What are the issues? I've been on lpg for 3 years now without problems. Would be useful to know what to keep an eye out for though....
