hi every one,

i have yet another tech issue i need help with!!

how do you change rear brake backing plates?
(its a 72 cross over)

ive managed to strip a thread in the rear hub  and now have to swap it for another one which i just happened to have in the garage, however the new/spare has a knackered backing plate and my stripped thread hub has a good one, typical.

iv seperated the knackered one with brute force but surely they cant be that difficult can they??

also do i need longer wheel studs to fit mws gas burners??

thanks in advance for yet more knowledge im lacking

You have to remove the large central hub nut, remove hub, remove wheel cylinder and remove all brake parts. Then there is 2 bolts at the bottom to remove, youve already removed the top fixing by removing the cylinder.Give the back plate a knock from side to side as theres a pin at the bottom. This may be rusted in[mine was],Job done .

What thread have you striped?-if its the brake drum mounting screws it won't realy matter that much.

Most after market alloys need longer studs rear 60-62mm and 50mm for the front. If you remove your rears 45mm they should be ok to put them in the front you will only need to buy 10 60mm studs for the rear + alloy wheel nuts ;)

thanks for the reply.

iv stripped tone that holds the irs/control arm? its the thread in the actual hub.

iv got new tapered wheel nuts specifically for alloys, where can i get new longer rear studs?

I got mine from justkampers,I bought the whole kit though fronts rears and nuts. But I did notice when looking that they just did the rears as a set of 10

right just been on ebay and seen some 60mm long studs for £2.50 each, so i can definately use the rear studs on the fronts? they are press in 14mm x 1.5?

just called midland wheel services and they advised that the standard wheel studs on a bay are long enough for fitting their gas burners.

top result or mis-informed :?: ??

i shall try fitting one tonight to find out, thats after iv swapped the rear hub, made up a new brake pipe, fitted a new wheel cylinder and then bleed the brakes
