What's the largest bore you could get away with? Incidentally my 2.7 has 6 x 92mm diameter pistons (the same as a 1776 would have)

WOW and WOW again, thatā€™s some great results this year and I can only imagine how addictive it could be. I canā€™t wait to hear about you guys doing a four inch bore for yours. Now that youā€™ve said it, youā€™ll be thinking about it.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,what a great addiction to have. :)

Iā€™d like a 4ā€ bore motor but they donā€™t use ā€˜off the the shelfā€™ parts. Maybe 1 day, weā€™ll see šŸ¤”

Those carbs are huge! That's some motor right there! Can only image what the launch feels like with the 1/4mile in front of you!

Got me thinking the other day, was reading a post about a guy who was thinking of going to Spa in his beetle that had a hi-po motor with 48s, he worked out the cost of the fuel and didn't bother. I've never considered the cost of speed in that way before but it does make a difference! Costs me around Ā£80 to fill my tank with Super, so around Ā£120 (estimate) to do the 400mile round trip to Cornwall last weekend, and I'm going again next week...... I feel my power to fuel bill ratio is pretty decent or at least I'm comfortable with it, but it is a consideration for those wanting power without a thought for the impending fuel cost.

Look forward to seeing the progress

Weber 48 IDAā€™s šŸ‘ŒšŸ» itā€™s good fun, in the grand scheme of things itā€™s not that quick but itā€™s not bad for a fully fitted westy bus. His is probably running rich as hell! Mines not terrible on fuel, itā€™s 2276cc with 10:1 compression and probably about 200hp without the gas so itā€™s not breaking a sweat just cruising along. I can get to ninove and back from mine in Suffolk on 2 tanks of fuel. On a trip it will do about 240 miles to a tank, in town driving though itā€™s pretty bad and racing proper drinks fuel šŸ˜… biggest downside is I have to run it on v power or alike as the compression & nitrous needs the octane šŸ¤¦šŸ»šŸ˜‚

Did have a deadline of ninove but weā€™re gonna take the bug so the bus isnā€™t such a priority. Will be done for spring though

Truly unimpressed with Upol raptor, over priced and over hyped crap. 7 years old and literally falling off in massive scabs šŸ˜’ So stripping underside down to bare metal then going old school with epoxy mastic and actual paint.

I'm glad it wasn't just me. (Not glad as such, but ...). I did my front arches - prepped it really well, and whilst it went on ok, its subsequently shrunk and peeled away. I took a load off last winter and brush painted the gaps to fix it up but it needs all pulling off at some point.

I also feel a degree of vindication knowing itā€™s not just me whoā€™s had unsatisfactory results but yeah itā€™s utter dog ****, overpriced ******* at that. I too did all the proper prep etc but like you itā€™s shrunk, cracked retained crud & moisture then subsequently caused corrosion over the past 6 years šŸ™„

Anyway, Iā€™ve got the right needle about this so have attacked it hard šŸ˜‚

My next landlord/next door neighbours at the yard are powder coaters and are aware of my plight, they lent me this.

They use it to get powder coat off, jeez!!!! Thatā€™s made the job a lot easier!! Goes through raptor like P diddy does baby lotion šŸ˜‚

Both arches stripped and rust treated (just in case)
