    Best dizzy please

I'd prefer a Bosch SVDA if you can find them for sale but if you're happy with the 009 then its probably easier to stick with it. You'd need to sort a vacuum connection to your carbs if you went to SVDA. I wouldn't bother with a oil cooler on a decent 1776 - see how it runs first and go from...

Thanks Alex - you sound like a man with confidence in your product :) It'd be great to hear some positive feedback from other EB members before I push the button...

    Heritage all new engines feedback

Hi, Has anyone here bought an all new VW Heritage engine and put up a bit of mileage on it? Wondering if they're worth a punt.

    electric fuel pump noise

    I use these - they make a huge difference and the pump can't be heard inside: http://www.gsparkplug.com/shop/facet-fuel-pump-parts-rubber-mounting-kit.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

    VWHeritage and Alex

Totally agree - its not easy to represent your employer. he's always been helpful and constructive. The discount makes engines good value - I had to fight the urge to buy a 1776 today

    Which automatic fire extinguisher??.????

I'd have to disagree with you there - the air is drawn in through both vents by the fan and exits into the 'hot' zone under the engine bay. The fan will stop when the engine stops running, as it will when the extinguisher discharges. We'll assume that the van will stop pretty smartly after...

    1776 build - questions

If I were you, I'd set the timing up first (max advance of around 28 to 30 degrees btdc) and see how it runs then (carbs may need to be adjusted again after). If you still have the hesitation after that try adjusting the accelerator pump in each carb to give a little more squirt.

    Refitting Rear Springplates

I raised mine with a bottle jack and then tapped them in with a hammer.

    american agents

A friend of mine bought a bus from The Samba but used Randy from oldbug.com to check it out, take more photos, do the final haggling, handle payment and get it to the docks. He then used Kingston to get it shipped. Everything went perfectly and Randy turned out to be a great guy. The bus was...

Where to buy - Quality Rear Brake Shoes 70-71

    Mine's a '71 built 08/70. I bought these: http://www.customandcommercial.com/vw-baywindow/brakes/rear_brake_parts/rear_brake_shoe_set_8fslash70-7fslash71_1468/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I don't remember them looking dodgy - I wouldn't have fitted them if I wasn't happy...

    Westfalia factory pics...cool!

Think so -the red looks like Chianti Red. Mine was built in Oct '70 and would have looked exactly like the red tintops

    Subaru Engines?

Have you considered a VAG 1.9 diesel? Should be a lot cheaper to source than a Subaru engine and torque is probably more important than outright power in a bay. 38 mpg is feasible.

Reducing servo pipe to balance pipe tee

@Trikky2 - apologies - my description was sloppy - there's a connection off each manifold and the 6mm fuel line runs between the two manifolds - I want to connect the servo pipe to this balance pipe. The servo hose is the correct size (approx 15mm internal diameter) @Bay-low71 - thanks -...

Reducing servo pipe to balance pipe tee

Hi, I'm fitting a set of Kadrons which have a fuel line sized balance pipe between the two carbs. I want to fit a tee to that pipe so that I can connect the servo to it but I can't find a suitable reducer - I need something like 15mm to 6mm (roughly). Does anyone have any idea where I can get...

    B5ES or B5HS ?

If you take off the rocker cover you should be able to get the codes from the head (get them from both in case they don't match). Post them here and someone will be able to tell you what they are

    Disc brake splash plates.

The usual suppliers only list one backplate for '71-'79. Does this mean that they should be the same for both caliper styles or is the aftermarket one a compromise universal fit?

1600 Twin Port Manifolds and Front Disc Brakes

The head with the locating dowel for the manifold is a '71-'73 dual port head (see page 49 of 'How to build your Volkswagen aircooled engine' by Tom Wilson). If you take off the rocker covers on both head you'll be able to find a reference number for the head (something like 113 101 375A)...
