can someone please tell me what to look for when buying a gearbox for a bay. i bought an 091 2 litre bay box today for the sum of 200 notes off some guys from belgium. he didnt know much about the box tho he did say that when he drained the oil for transportation that no metal particals were on the plug or in the oil. he gave me his card and said that if it doesnt work i can meet him for an exchange at volksworld show. as i wont be able to run the box up before then i was just wondering what i need to look for.

First of all I take it your not splitting the box...try flushing it through and see whats comming out have a magnet at hand...

Check for excessive play on the diff and shaft

the nose cone end how much play with the rod?

Can you select gears?

and of course general condition of case....

to be honest theres not a lot you can do without testing it under load or getting it into a box specialist...

you got a bargain

i paid 300 for the one i got today

as said, only way to really test it is get it in, im in the same position, just gotta hope it working okay once we get it in
