So im putting together a 1776
Nothing to powerfull just a up in cc
Got a pair or kadrons
So engle w100
Or scat c??
Straight cut gears?
What size oil pump?
Heads will be just fettled
Stock rockers etc
Also vac dizzy or 009? Cheers :)

Ok thanks yea i would go with the accuspark as thats what i run on my beetle cheers

Stock oil pump is plenty good enough.

Don't go for straight cut gears. There no advantage on a street engine and the noise is annoying after a while - plus they are not as reliable in the long run (less surface area per tooth hence higher wear rate) imo.

An Engle 100 will be really drivable, have good torque from idle and pull to about 5000rpm but tbh on stock internals I would advise going higher. 1 think I would suggest is getting the bottom end balanced. Crank, pulley, gears on cranks, flywheel and clutch pressure plate. Will make it smoother in increase engine life.

What are you doing to the heads? Are you going larger valves?
I have some 90.5/92 bore 40x35.5, single HD spring, SS valve heads arriving here in a few weeks. I'll be offering these as stock or flowed and with a 3 angled valve job.

Assuming you will use in in stock rpm range.

C25 with 1.1 or 1.25 rockers work really well.

Straight cut gears?
No. See trikkys reply

Stock just blueprint it.

Heads will be just fettled

Fettled how? Smooth them a bit helps. Deshroud and a 3 angle job is great.
Keep stock valve sizes if you like torques.

Stock rockers etc

Vac dizzy ftw. Accu spark or bosch are good.

Cheers :)

Easy wins.. balance con rods pistons and blueprint the oil pump
Full flow if not done all ready oil strainer is not worth it on own.

Finally get your assembly balanced this will smooth it out no end Inc pulley and fly wheel.

Put a vs exhaust on Xmas list or consider the beetle box on budget.

Cheers

Just out of interest, where will you be having the machining work done? I have a case/crank/con rods from a previous project I was going to sell but also considering putting a 1776 together as a long term project that I can put a few quid in here and there so it doesnt sting me all at once!

Highly recommend :
(63ragtop)john walklett, Dan simpson or stateside (jim) dor engine work. all fair prices all actually do the work you want at the pace you want.

my 2p worth
