Just wondering if any one is running this setup?

Is a 6.5" to 8" drop too much? would i be able to get the rear to match it with a comfy ride?

I would think the rear is going to need some major mods to get it anywhere near that low - chassis notching etc
Also dont forget that the red 9 kit on its lowest setting is likely to be overstressing your ball joints.
 
In a simple answer NO I WOULDN'T DO IT

The 5.5" red 9 kit is low already and you'd be struggling for clearance unless you narrow the beam, you would definitely struggle to get the rear to go that low without notching the chassis etc.
 
I've fitted wagonwest dropped spindels and red9 2" to 4" drop coilover kit on a red9 narrowed beam.

The ride is good, the bus is slammed and the ball joints are straight 8)

There are pics of the beam built up with the red9 kit and dropped spindles in my thread in the gallery.

If you went for the 4"/5" kit you will need tubs and chassis mods

two things i like the most about the red9 kit are
1. the ride
2. its adjustable


If you fit the 4"/5.5" kit with dropped spindles you will be pretty much stuck at the highest setting on the coilover... rendering the kit nonadjustable.(well for height at least)
 
yeah thats what i'm thinking, i may fit it ans see how it look, will need adjustable spring plates first though!
 
Just thinking about it, is it possible to tryal fit just the coilovers, to check the height, by removing the grub screw that holds the leifs' in place?
 
That will work to do a stationary check to see what height you will be running at..... but don't be tempted to drive it. it will be all over the place without a centre locating grubscrew.

I'm sure i don't have to say but i will......make sure you get the axlestands out if you start messing with the centre holding grubscrew!

Just removing the central grub screw wont make any difference to the height as the torsion leaves will still be taking all the weight of the van, as the collar in the centre of the beam still wont move (unless you beam is already fitted with adjusters - in which case you will probably lose the ability to refit the grub screw if it does turn).
 
i wrote that on the assumption that adjusters had been fitted.

But you are right loxy :oops: ,

if its a stock beam it will not help your cause.
