I should have a "new" 70 deluxe in a weeks time. It's a bit of a side project that I picked up. Its a super clean OG paint Delta green deluxe. No seats in the rear so my question is should I build it as a Deluxe and put the two rows of seats in it or source out an orig westy interior and build a tintop westy? Doesn't matter to me as I will probably drive it next summer daily and probably sell it as I don't have enough space to keep it with my original 70 westy back on the horizon. I keep waffling back and forth. Lets have a little fun and come up with my plan.

Im voting Westy interior as unless you really want to use it as a minibus the westy interior offers the best of both worlds and would probably appeal to more people when you want to move it on. probably

I Would go with a deluxe interior with z bed hinges...........

Ah, so you can fit hinges to the rear bench seat? is it much of a job to do?

Stick with the Deluxe ;)

I will post pics when it arrives. The only ones I have are from the previous owner. I love the Minibus look and being that I am a trimmer it was the reason I bought it too, work a little magic on the interior. I am thinking of a 70's inspired look. All of my other cars kind of have that feel. I just have tossed around the idea of turning it into a westy recently because of the versatility. Keep your thoughts coming because I never even thought of the Z bed but that is a GREAT idea!! Perfect auto swap meet vehicle.

Dunno m8 - i have a westy, there are a few threads about Z hinges. I would use these if i had a deluxe, and throw a ikea futon mattress over the top for nice comfort, duvet on top - sorted.

You have the advantage of being able to remove the seats for when you need the space for moving stuff, or going to the tip, a little awkward with a full kitted out interior, it all depends on what use you will have for the bus. You could even reverse one seat and have a table so you have seating like in a train, both facing each other with table in the middle?

A nice cool box for the food and drink, overnight bag for clothes, washing up bowl, all you need. As much as i love my Westy, the sink unit and wardrobe and buddy seat does take up space, and i only fill up the wardrobe and buddy seat with pots and pan and other junk, at the end of the day, the sleeping bit is the most important, a full interior does give you plenty of storage options. You could even block off the walk through, fit a bench seat up front along with a fridge, hob, storage unit behind the front seats like the SO69/1 Oslo..........and have a rock n roll bed at rear as normal, or smaller cooking unit up front and z hinge the stock seats?

Cheers!

me too in process of rearanging my deluxe interior, basically converting to camper, nice to have a bit of luxury when camping mate i feel, the choice is yours as long as you go westy !!!!!

i voted west interior

but in your position, i'd be tempted to go for a custom interior, and use that to demo your trimming skills

i got a deluxe with a bare interior (not even a headliner), for the very reason that i wanted a deluxe but with a modern retro take on classic interiors (and it was cheaper!). i have a 3/4 z bed, sink, cooker & 3 fixed seats and one buddy seat, plus a few cupboards and storage places, but no wardrobe as i think they make it too dark in the back. use it all the time and have spent up to a week living in it with the missus in tow. mine was made by calypso interiors, and it is just what i wanted style and layout wise, not the cheapest option though from them

i would post pics, but dont have any or any online

camping interior will make it much easier to shift on than a deluxe interior

I have voted westy due to the fact that T2a's make amazing campers and the westy is a great conversion.
