pics of a van we hoped to be in but luckily we got our money back from the ¬restorer¬/workshop who did the work you see in the pics.

south african import and was told it would be "no problem " to do the work that was agreed.
put our old westy roof onto it, bare metal respray it, sorting any rust issues wneh bare metalled. then put our bits and interior from our 1972 westy onto/into the new body.

problems arose when the man responsible ,a vw specialist...discovered that some 72 bits dont fit a 70/71 ??in our opinion this messed up his quote to us ....it had already gone to the top end of the original figure but instead of talking to us it all went pear shaped and we paid more money , it took longer, there were many problems fitting bits we asked for, some of our donor parts apparently never went up to the workshop, even some of the bits photgraphed on the shell in south africa did not make it to the workshop....or rather did not make it onto our van .

end result/....we had over a year of van less fun, picked the van up in january this year and have just this week had our money back plus money for the bits and pieces on the van, ...engine ,gerabox, exhaust, interior, etc.etc.

this leaves the man with the van and we hope that he does the job properly before someone else buys it with the faults and failings we found...after you see the pics of some of the works you can make you own mind up.

neptune blue /white westy roof....did have a continental interior,so unusual for a low light. reg vod311j

ps. if anyone wants to mail me for more details i will gladly discuss the whole matter ... also give name of company ....i live near taunton and travelled north on m5 but not as far as bristol ....jct 21... weston super mare i seem to think was a coming off point.
but i would be able to confirm that if you mail you ady........thats short for address....to me. you could also then contact the company for their side of the story.
fairs fair. i believe there are probably happy campers out there am i am pleased for them ....but i also believe that there are more similar stories out there....just trying to avoid problems for both parties in the future.

mate soz to hear that. anyone we should know??

hope you manage tofind something you have always dreamed of. there is nothing like the feeling of being let down by someone. i have had similar - hence my ongoing resto thread on here. been let down by previous owners suppliers.

NaFe

p.s. have you got a link to the VZi thread?

think i got the pics on, pm me for details dont want to get the site in to a mess

thats just a few of the bit that i did not think acceptable.
dont panic too much about the repair to the sevo pipe.... it was not even connected!! 1cos the manifold was the wrong one.i did ask questions in jan/feb on here about the tinware over the gear box...if it was important....cos it was not fitted.
also did i really need an air filter on the carb ..you guessed it ....cos it was`nt fitted

oh and what do those big black pipes attached to the heat exchangers really do? ....yep same ole same ole ... but anyway the flaps were not connected either so no point in having the tubes?
...even when we removed the radio ....later when we thought about doing the work again...we discovered that there were no vents to the screen in the middle either....it was a van full of hidden surprises...every time we went to it we found ...or rather didnt find ...some thing on it .

any way we have money back but it is a place and company i would avoid. all seemed good and impressive to start with ... checked work in progress etc etc ...agrees what was gonna be done ... stared bit late but started work ...thwen slowed abit ... then did a bit then got more money ... then slowed again ....then a bit
endedup 7 months later than told it would be ... and in the state you see

let me know your thoughts
and as i said i would be happy to speak to anyone ....even answer any points put by the company concerned asa i was more than willing to do in court until they accepted our offer of selling them the van back etc.but admitting no liability....thats what it said in the letter anyway.

cheers
steve

Steve

Sorry to hear you've had such a bad experience and from your description of the location and what the bus was I think I know who you are talking about so I won't ask anymore.

If you are still looking for a bus and want some help please don't hesitate to give me a call or drop me a line, only too happy to help out to get you into a bus you want, but happy to just offer help and advice in your search, that is if you still want a bus!!

bad luck steve  i no who you are talking about i have seen his paint work
had more runs than the GB bobsleigh team.i think he comes on here sometimes

if its who I'm thinking of, yes he does come on here from time to time,

Are we allowed to know who it was??

Only asking because Being local and in the future i will be needing some body work done on the van, and would like to avoid.
