Hi people :) The next big thing I have to get for my bus is a/set of carbs, my mechanic friend wants me to get twin somethings but a good friend has said they will need setting up every 200 miles and are a pain, he says weber progressive is the best way to go

Any advice?

Cheers

Lynds

If you get a good set of twins set-up correctly at the start they should not need touching. Just get them checked every service.

Cheers for the advice :) Had a long chat with a couple of mates yesterday and they are both telling me to go with progressive? but having looked into the fuel economy of them I am pretty much deciding on twins BUT which ones?

I was going to do a poll to see which are the most popular but not really sure what the choices are lol

I need the best fuel economy first and performance second, what do you suggest?

btw its a 1600 TP with a standard exhaust :)

If it's a totally stock engine a set of Weber 34 ICT's would be ideal imo. Anything bigger i.e 36's or 40's would need a free-flowing exhaust to get the full benefits.

I thought it pretty much a given that the single carb system on a flat four is inefficient by design, it works but was always a cost comprimise.
If thats accepted, then a single progressive will never be as good as twins ... cheaper, easier to install but never as good.
The fuel still has to travel through the elongated manifold system and icing will still occurr.
Twins for the win.

That is exactly the same I have always heard... And it seems pretty logical too...and twin carbs look coooool!

Cheers Clem :) I keep getting conflicting advice from friends that are very into vw's and am completely confused now :?

But I think I will be going for the weber 34 ICT from Status as its correctly jetted and Barclay will let me pay a bit at a time, bless him :) Unless of course someone tells me different lol

Check the jets, took me quite a while to get my sp running right (nearly). Ended up changing all the jets and emulsion tubes as well.
