Paying for 500 with Tiscali so pretty much on the button, but think it is time for something quicker, like putting on some webbers or maybe go for the full on drag spec

Mine with BT. Quite happy with that considering most people round me still use carrier pigeons and I'm a fair crack from the exchange.

I don't even know what a ping is so.....

Is this good??

in one word...no  - technically dsl broadband target around 40ms - so that's the amount of time it takes to send a small packet of data to the testing server and it to be returned to you - on the other hand it depends how much you pay for broadband as it's relative - if you ping something on the inside of your ISP's network (like the address of your DNS server) then expect this to be a lot better, the latency (time for the round trip) is to be expected to be longer with these speedtest sites as they are on the internet not your ISP's network so going over 3rd party networks, also depends on the capacity and performance of the speedtest site,

Bear in mind that these tests are also happening through your internet browser in windows (i assume) - so aren't only related to your broadband but also your computers performance - they work by downloading a large file and timing how long it took, so things like RAM and drive read/write rate are also a factor

apologies for the long winded reply - I work for an ISP and you've got me onto a pet subject :)
