I bought a buttys bits throttle kit from the Grill and Chill show yesterday ( Saturday) I fitted it this morning to my bus, it took about 20 mins to fit, and the result is staggering one of the best bits of kit I've fitted, highly recommended and if I can fit one anyone can lol

Seconded. I bought one a couple of months ago and it arrived very quickly, easy to fit and a superb quality improvement. Highly recommended!

Ok, I know what it is.
But what is the actual improvement apart from "a great bit of kit", "highly recomended", "superb quality improvement" and "staggering result"?
It obviously won't make the bus faster. So do you just have a better throttle response?
Does it actually make sense to get one if the original one is in perfect working condition?

I thought mine was ok, until I fitted this, the throttle is smoother much more responsive and you are able to achieve full throttle sooner
Or Viagra for your right foot as it has been previously described

Viagra for my right foot does indeed sound promising.
I think I need to get one :)

In a sense it actually does make it faster, as the is no longer any slack better the throttle and carbs. For me i gained a 5 to 10% power increase! so it certainly worked and the smoother pedal means its more like the feel of a modern car pedal as opposed to a 40 year old van feel, hence staggering result  8)

I drove two vans last weekend, one with a Butty's Bits throttle, and one without. The one WITH felt like a whole different vehicle - the throttle felt directly connected to the engine, whereas in the other it felt like there was a "correlation" between throttle position and revs at best! WITH felt much tighter and more in control. When I get round to it I'm 100% behind fitting one.

I put one on recently and I too have more power. I had my bus tuned before and the mechanic said I was not getting full throttle, probably only a third. Bought the kit for early bay RHD and what a difference. Hills - here we come! :D

Fitted one of these to my RHD last week.......massive difference , instant response to the pedal now. Can't recommend them enough, easy to fit too. :)

Made my bus quicker as the carb is now being opened fully!
Also the return of the pedal is much smoother and spring assisted - all round an excellent bit of kit more than worth the price.
Viagra for your pedal!

Great bit of kit and easy to fit. Bus not back on the road yet so can't offer a verdict on the road test.

One quick question, did anyone remove the spring on the carb once fitted or leave it be?

Spring on the carb needs to be left in place.

I fitted the kit too, also fitted a new pin the holds the pedal in place, a dusting of graphite and a accelerator stop under the pedal. A great modification.

If you've got a throttle linkage in relatively good fettle then they shouldn't make any difference to the amount of pull on the carb, but they will feel nicer underfoot as everything is supported via bearings and rose joints rather than friction on steel. If your linkage rods etc are worn then the buttys bits kits will take care of some of that problem and restore some of the pull on the carb.

Will fit it this weekend and give my verdict.

Ok so it's taken me a month to get round to fitting it

Well what a difference. No play in the pedal linkage now. The throttle spring gives it a firm feel and the response is instant. Fantastic bit of kit. Like others have said easy to fit took me about 30 minutes. I'm almost frightened to give it full throttle in case my engine explodes

I have also fitted mine recently and found it was fine. In conjuntion, I also found out I was only getting partial throttle opening at the back, so was able to weight the pedal down, adjust at the engine end, then make sure when the throttle came off that it wasn't still pulling the carb butterliies open. In the end I bought a new throttle cable to use - multi-strand ones seem much more flexible and compliant than the original single wire.

I found my old accelerator linkage to have been 'improved' by jaming in a wooden wedge to reduce the free play! Also the amount of grease applied to 'lubricate' (disguise?) everything was clogging up the return, so I cleaned it all off and used light oil instead - also dribbled some down both ends of the throttle cable sleeve. I also found that I had to fit a stronger spring to the lever arm on the throttle pull inside the belly pan. Now everything is really crisp.

I found that I had to shorten the Butty's Bits kit longer link-rod slightly to get the full adjustment I needed as it was minned-out (i.e opposite of maxxed out!) and still some free play - now all sorted.

I also fitted a Just Kampers new throttle hinge/ hinge-pin and return spring kit at the same time - after discovering the original hinge to have been wedged with another wooden sliver. That piece of kit did need some more midification too, basically put a bar throught the coil spring and formed another turn, which shortens the length of the acuating arm and increases the spring pressure.

Anyhow, with a new cable, Butty's bits kit, improved throttle hinge/ spring, and a new coil spring on the end of the lever arm, it behaves beautifully. No slop. Throttle comes back when you let go, feels lovely and firm and reponsive.
