the other end has a small 3 pin plug on it. .

Must be a transducer of some type to monitor the flywheel speed, could be for a rev counter conversion of some type? or possibly a pick up for an engine management system of some type perhaps :?: buit why its on your engine i dont know :?

Iv just found out its some kind of timing diagnostic plug :?

its a crank trigger sensor, and your starter motor bot is missing! :wink:
