Carb Stripping...

Going to try and get to the bottom of my engine lurching an idling issues, this weekend I'm going to remove and strip down/clean the carb..
Any pointers or advice before I attempt this?

Presumably you have a carb rebuild kit?

Might also be worth considering getting the spindle bushes replaced if its a carb thats seen a lot of action - There is a thread on here somewhere about where to get them & how to do it.

I just thought I strip it and blow it through to get rid of any crap... I'll look for a kit thanks for the heads up!

Put parts in a zip lock bag spray in loads of carb cleaner and leave to soak over night, you will find any carbon comes off much easier, use a tooth brush to get any stubborn carbon off, blow drilling through with a compressor if you can.

Lay parts out on the table as you take it apart in the order they came out in, take a picture so you know what went where and in which order.

As has already been said a rebuild kit is a must really, no point putting back old, brittle rubber diaphragms.

Noddy is giving you some very good advice there. It's in your best interests to take it.

And..............over here in the States we have a product called Berryman's Chem-Dip. I'm not sure if this stuff is offered in GB. It comes in a gallon container (like a can of paint) and contains a rack. The idea here is that you strip the carb to pieces, place the pieces in the rack, submerge the rack into the Chem-Dip goop and let it soak. Gotta tell you that this is nasty stuff. But it does a wonderful job of cleaning every aspect of the carburetor. Well worth the $15US (about 10 quid?) to get a very clean carburetor. IF you do have this stuff over in GB I'd definitely suggest that you use it.
