I have a new set of Fuch's that are chromed i will use them on my bay but in their ad mws says show only, so what should i do clearcoat them or just leave them as they are? is it China chrome or??

From homepage:

"FUCH " By MWS Wheels, Traditional Retro Design, Superior Craftsmanship, Stylish & Sleek. This Traditional VW 5 spoke Alloy Wheel comes Finished in Chrome All Over.
Note: Chrome Wheels recommended for show use only & Do not carry a manufactures warranty on the finish."

Does anybody here have any experience of this "problem"

cheers
michael

I havent got the mws chrome rims, but I do have the mws chrome steel 356 copies on my bay and the mws polished empis on my 67 bug. As long as you keep on top of the polishing and cleaning they seem to be ok for the money. If you use the car all year round i'd put steels on during the winter as the road salt will kill the chrome finish.

I don't think a clearcoat will stick to the chrome because the chrome is such a smooth finish. So don't use the chrome wheels in winter and keep in mind that you will have to polish even in summer if you want to keep them shiny and pretty.

Thanks for replies guys,
uber cool im not driving the bay wintertime its just a summer cruiser ;)
Resto-raider you might be very right that the clearcoat might crack due to the finish on the wheels.

Do we have a wheel stand three here at earlybay?

Keeping them well polished with good quality car wax helps to keep the moisture at bay.

hi matey,as much as its hard graft keeping them polished up,it only takes one stone chip to let moisture from a car wash to get under the clear coat and make them look bad.you cannot do anything about stone chips while you're driving along either.ask me how I know!

If it was me,I'd just keep them bare & polished. hth

I think we can state that chromed wheels should NOT be clearcoated

Bought fake centerlines to my bug think they were called "centrelines"they were made out of aluminium and clearcoated look like sh-t after one season so then the only thing that could save them was to wet sand them and rub with metalpolish..

The laquer won't adhere. It doesn't even adhere properly to diamond cut wheels found on most modern fords and VAG motors.
