I have a 69 sp engine in my bus. I just refitted the motor to my bus with a new spare clutch i have. The clutch is off a later tp engine but they are the same size. The problem i have is the release bearing doesn't fit the operating bar properly. Is there a solution or do i need to buy the original clutch again.

the bearing is "loose" on the operating arm and doesn't have a "sleeve".

All help appreciated.

that will be an early beetle clutch then?if your tight you can just use center plate :msn4:

Have you only replaced the friction plate?

The early clutch release bearings are held on to the arm with 2 clip, and no sleeve. For what a friction plate costs I would get a new one, its also worth checking the release bearing has plenty of life left in it, its worth putting a new one in if you have any doubts.

The whole clutch was worn so i replaced with what i had, which was new. The new bearing is held on with two clips but they're not the rigid ones on the early type and there is no sleeve.

Looks like i'll have to get a new older clutch.

I had to buy a later clutch when I replaced my early box with one from a '72.
The early clutch pressure plate doesn't have a centre bearing face mounted on the finger springs for the release bearing to push against.

I knew there was a difference but not sure what :?

Sorry for being completley un helpful
