My bay is a devon torvette on a G plate, first registered 21/03/1969 so always assumed it was a '69. A friend has come up from Devon to give me a hand with it n questioned it's age as it has 10 fuse positions, a colour coded dash and no door pulls (like later bays have).
Can anyone tell me if there are other identifying marks? (bar the mcode thing which I can't get to as it's miles away at the moment)
Many thanks :)

Have you got the log book there?
3rd digit of Chassis number will tell you the model year.

Failing that:
68 only:
Cab door handles have a push button handle that is more curved in shape.
Wiper arms appear to not have a nut holding them on.
pull knob by window for unlocking from the inside.
30A generator rather than 38A

69 on:
Increased number of ground wires due to the better priming procedure!!
oil warning light symbol changed to oil & red instead of green.

etc
etc

It was registered 8 months in to the producution year, so I would be sure its a 69. The chassis number will confirm though.

Sorry Irv, I've only just seen this. Not been into EB for ages! I don't really have any pics for you as mine is currently undergoing a resto and on a body roller.
On the 68 or 69 thing though..... interestingly it has the 68 beam but doesn't have the door pulls, just buttons on the door card.

The beam was 68/69 ... Im sure yours will be a 69. :)

is there a bulkhead between engine and fuel tank ?
got told that was a 68 only ?
Some early '69 model years had no bulkhead between the tank.

As Clem said check the Chassis No to get an exact build date,
i'd guess it was a '69 model year though, which is cool!

here's a link to a couple of pics i put up a while ago...........

Not sure about that one. I've got a firewall / bulkhead between engine and fuel tank and mine is definitely a 69, rolled off the line on 19/02/1969, and registered 01/05/1969. Could be retro fitted, not sure, but looks like it's factory fitted.

mine is a feb 68 US model westy but sure the door handles on the passenger side look like the driver side? ie pull knob and the opener looks the same....

I've missed something haven't I?

I don't have a firewall/fuel tank bulk head
I do have a different dash top
smaller fuse box
and push button door handles

[ I also don't have a 68 beam as the PO butchered a late one to get it to fit my chassis rails  but that's another story!]

Cool pics Irv
I prefer it's a 69, I have a sticker in mind for that. It's a far more fun number than '68 ;)

Mine was built on 25th Nov 67 but is classed as a 68, here's some pics to define.

Hi Grazy,
I have seen some early '69s with long stem mirrors too!!

I have known manufactures to use up old stock of an item on a newer model when it is launched, Only to change it a month or so down the line,
usually on 'crossover' or 'facelift' models and is usually due to supply/quality or assembly issues with the new part which they havent manged to sort in time!

I guess vw did the same

didnt 69's have a long neck anyway?,
just it was'nt metal and didnt have holes for the screws on the outside like 68's?
