sounds to me like youve got an air leak it doesnt always show when you go up the rev range i would get a can of wd 40 [ive always used easy start, but not everyone is comfortable with spraying it around the engine bay] and spray around the usual suspects inlet manifold gaskets, rubber manifold connection pipes ,carb manifold gasket,if the revs go up or it starts spluttering/dying then bingo youve found it this is best done on tickover if youve swapped carbs for one you knows is working then it cant really be jet sizes...

Just to note the test carb came jetted as is from JK - was working on mine (but then my bus might have a tolerance for incorrectly setup parts :D )

 my van was built from incorectly setup parts

Think we may have actually sorted it.......for now
I upped the idle jet to 60 which seemed to work wonders!

I did have a good search around for any air leaks, theres a lovely film of wd40 everywhere now, and tbh i cant find one anywhere!!!!
Another problem i noticed which i havent quite bottomed out is my throttle lever is sticking open when i attach the accelerator cable. (this could be something todo with butterfly valve shaft, although seemed to close well without cable),

So i now have a van that drives smoothly and idles, (although a bit too high if it sticks open!) confidnece is building again..... :)

Lard - Would i be able to keep the carb just for a couple more weeks until i am satisfied mine is all ok?
