Im currently very close to giving my van a damn good slap!

Im trying to fit new scrapers to one of the doors. (i did the other side last year and still not quite right)

anyway, i bought and fitted a new mech from C&C ('German quality'). All seals being used are Vewib apart from outter scraper which is VW
the inner scraper looks like a nice fit, the outer scraper fits a bit baggy, although i think i could alter this a touch.
The window seems very very tight and the window winder wont operate it without assistance from me pushing/pulling from below.
I removed the felt guides which made things a little easier, it'll now wind down on its on but not up.

Any help massively appreciated, this job is really F#*?ing me off

p.s, i did squirt the seals with a bit of wd40 (Cheers sparkywig :) ), but still have no luck.

I bought complete kits for both doors, all seals etc from C&C, only fitted the passenger side. My window is so stiff that it wont move up and down at att eh the front quarter windows don't open and close properly :-(

Bloody nightmare. I will get round to sorting it... I have brand new quarter lights to go in.

So it could just be the C&C seals?

J.

I did grease the mech, although i broke the original, are they repairable or available from a breaker?
Ill whip it out and get greasing again, the other side mech is mexican piece of s**t too.
I brought vewib seals knowing they are the best around.
Cheers Simon, always helpful :D ....maybe ill learn a thing or two, :p

Why don't you send it back  I would !!!! then buy a second hand one from one the companies sparkywig is suggesting

Hi Luke,

Have you fitted new felts? If you did, how did you shape the long felt?

If they are new you need to shape them around the drop glass to get the to bend correctly without crimping.

One of mine is slightly harder to wind up as I have two different makes , the one that I brought from heritage is much easier to wind. I brought two from c and c not great but you do have to run ptfe lub into the channels to start with.

as regards the mechanism mate, is it all siting "square" to the door ? on my own bus your probs which i had last year when i did same , part of prob was >>>old bus ,overlarge (some) screwthru holes, with one part being slightly "out" ,everything was "out" and prob , starting say at the glass seating , became mega by the time i tried to wind the glass up. may help

I did fight like buggary to get the new mech in, so it could be that its twisted, i just thought it was a crap fit, as i even had to trip the bottom of it to fit in the door,
Ill have one more go at it before i send it back, it does run smoothly but ill get the grease back out too. (although i just used some generic aircraft bearing grease i stole from work :msn4: )

Ill be back in a few days, wish me luck!

YEah , that wot u said fella, "removing the mech" when doing mine , i struggled so much/long with that , i put the system back as it was and drove to a camper repair w/shop and asked advice >>advice?" yeah ,it"s tricky/fiddly/time consumming job"!> every person reading your post and our replies will be nodding their head and having flashbacks !!!thing is , you get the parts ,strip out whats already fitted ,set aside an entire day AND>>realise job needs to be done >job can be done > you will ,trust me ,do that fitting and once done say to yourself "thank the lord i will never have to do that ,again"!if the glass is meeting the guide and the felt "square" then , whatch/feel for when it starts to go tight, and sort ,keep going from there, good luck and do post later as to how you resolved it ,please.

I got C&C ones as I wanted shiny n not the Matt finished ones, I shit out and got the bodyshop to fit them as I ran out of time, but the windows need assistance when winding up. I guess it's just the joys of pattern parts, tho one day the seals will wear enough so the windows work properly again  oh and I no longer open my quarters  that said the same goes for the Vewib side quarter window, they will never be opened again

Well its finally done, i have 2 winding windows and 2 opening quarterlights.

I came to the conclusion (as suggested by Mr Wig) tht the mechs i had were utter crap!
I purchased new mechs for £30 from Megabug (who were excellent, highly recommended) fitted in a matter of minutes and worked a treat!
The only issue i have now is the outer scraper doesent hold too tight to the glass, but i think thats something a little tweaking could solve.

Thanks for all the help. I have learnt 2 very inportant lessons from this,
1) Buy og parts and not shite repro stuff
2) Listen very closely to those in the know :msn4: :D

I am trying to retuen the defective repro winder to the supplier, they have said they need to look into this to see if the whole batch is defective, somehow i think i already have the answer

Cheers all!
Luke

Glad you got it sorted - I for one have no confidence in buying aftermarket parts anymore - so much so that all my window seals, scrapers etc need replacing and leak a bit, but I'd almost rather that than fit some crap.

Having just done both of doors on our last week, I have every sympathy, complete sod of a job!

Only wound them up and down a couple of times so far (to check they all work properly) and would describe them as stiff but not unuseable. Have the C&C seals / felts / scrapers, had to recycle the og clips into the new scrapers as the old ones were tut and am using the original mechs.

Word to anyone contemplating it, do it all at once (it's easier in the long run!), reuse as much as possible and prepare to take a couple of nights at it with plenty of tea and smoke breaks to calm down
