we're planning a rack to suit dormobiles, which will be positioned in front of the pop top

we'll space the two bows to suit the available roof / gutter space, and extend the "lats" forward of the front bow, projecting out over the top of the windscreen, so increasing load carrying ability.

howver - this is where our idea gets interesting.......we've had a few requests for racks for people to carry the spare wheel, but this obviously severely limits the amount of load carrying space.

would a "double decker" rack be a good idea ? I'm thinking taller bows with the spare slung undernearth in a cradle (bolted to a plate to stop movement), with a flat roofrack area above for luggage - either with or without the perimeter "fence"....the spare would slide out from the front.

feedback / comments / suggestions (other than "you're insane") adaptations please people.......after all - you're our customers, what do YOU want

Sounds like an idea especially using a double decker rack for long distance journeys etc etc!! Especially with being able to carry another spare!!

Also having a rack overhanging wouldn`t be such a bad idea either! Utilise that dead space 8)

Sounds good to me 8) 8)

Top ideas

On a pop top van that sounds quite interesting Slim....the added height wouldnt/shouldnt be as noticeable....

must admit before I put my order in I had thought of something along the lines of the wheel horizontal above the rack on another pair of bows...if you can get my drift that either slid or folded out....

how would you get the wheel out wouldnt it have to be slid over the roof surface also quite heavy to lift just a thought

Pic of my rack (can get better if any use?) that fits on the front of my dormobile, think its original as it matches the rear one as well?

I put the spare wheel on the back rack & secure it with a ratchet strap, would it be a bit high on the front?

the spare would be fixed to a flat plate wleded to support bars coming off the bows and would be held about 50mm above the high point of the roof

i'm thinking it could be slid out of either side or the front

we'll throw a few ideas round in the shop and try and knock up a basic idea for pics
