Nice one..

I must add that i am no technical Guru....there are loads of people on here who have vast amounts of experience but i am willing to get my hands dirty on jobs that i have done on my buses. It would be best for people to talk about what they want before we meet up so we can decide what is possible, what parts and time needed etc.

Maybe a Holiday Inn or Campsite as you mentioned....with electric at that time of year.

Such a good idea, nice one Graham.

Jon

I was about to make a similar disclaimer over my own technical 'expertise' (or lack of therefore  )

I can provide tools and a willingness to take on any job :D

I'll only pop down for the day(s) from my student house, sadly can't offer anyone any room here really :(

I think this is a great idea - but I'd love to see/practice/be shown some practical body work such as welding, grinding, filling spraying etc.

Can I volunteer my bus for the spraying / filling guinea-pig? :D

It really couldn't get any worse than it is now

You coming to the Christmas Cruise? ;)

Yeah if i can, currently dont have any seats in the bus.

Whats the date?

Dec 14th ;)

It's in the events section on here, or 'chat' on the KDC forum :D (and posted on about 22 other forums...)

Shame I'm going to miss your Christmas cruise as I'm away on holiday later that morning. Used to do something similar with the motorbike toy run in Reading which grew to such an event that the police ended up controlling roundabouts and junctions - great fun and a lovely way of passing stuff on to the kids for Christmas. Hopefully next year, good luck with the final organisation

I'll happily come along and add some muscle (?) to anyone needing help / assistance.
Hopefully help to put some names to faces!
Might even offer my bus up for someone to work there magic on

Your student house sounds interesting ?? Any fit girls in it ???

3 girls, 4 guys this year. All the girls are taken though ;)

Sorry Graham for effectively ruining your thread

Spraying would be difficult unless the unit has got a proper man size compressor in it.
With welding it would be handy if someone local had a proper gas welder they could drag along?
Filling would be alright but would get expensive unless the person getting the work done provides the materials (Filler, hardener, production paper, primer, thinners)? Proper blocks would be handy but they are easy to improvise. We'd make do with the crappy free plastic filler cards and bring a number plate along if its serious.

I can bring my 150amp clarke gas welder along, if people want to provide the costs of welding wire / gas etc. I only use the small bottles of gas from machine mart etc as I don't do much welding. My bus has plenty of bodywork repairs to be done too.

I'd happily provide materials if someone wants to show me how to straighten + filler the front panel of my bus (I cocked up a bit when I removed the badge bulge from the repro panel  )

:)

Ahh the memories will come flooding back

(Luckily not had any full front panels to fit recently although had the joys of a split to fill  )

Yup!

this is the mess I made of removing the badge pressing:
(now protected with POR15 to keep it dry)

It'll need pulling out with a slide hammer a little first, as I don't want cm deep filler on it

Next time, I'd remove the badge bulge after the front panel is on the van. Before I fitted it to the van it looked fine!

I'm now putting a load of effort into my bug to ensure I barely need filler ;) - and still the thought of prepping it scares me :?

Forgot to ask... Graham, have you any provisional ideas for dates?

Could perhaps see when is best for everybody :)

Yeah that is learning the hard way!

Would need to very careful slide hammering, only problem is you'd need to weld the holes back up afterwards. Another problem is it may have expanded the metal so it will be quite poppy and have a tendancy to ping in and out.
Looks like there is a few hours entertainment to be had there anyway!

OK

Have not forgotten about this just been a bit busy with work and the storage unit I thought I had secured may not be as straight forward as I thought but enough of that!!

Right having had a chat to a few people and seen the posts I think we need to concentrate on the 'Technical' side of Early bays rather than the cosmetic side but I hope you'll hear me out on this one.

The main topics that seem to spring up and I think we should try and cover are:

Leisure Battery Fitting
Electrical Hook Ups
Routine Engine Service
Different examples of lowering (Red 9 vs Drop Spindles vs Adjusters etc)
Electronic Ignition Fitting
Replacing Fuel Lines

What we need to do is try and build a list of who wants to learn what and then provide a list of parts for them to bring with them or at a push I could probably organise a bulk buy of the bits as long as people pay for them on the weekend.

In addition to this I think we could have one vehicle where some body prep is worked on, Jim's (Tofufi's) bus springs to mind as a good candidate  , so people can have a go at filling sanding etc and possibly a bit of spraying with a LP sprayer.

Currently looking at another Unit and Camping with Electric Hook up may be more possible at this location, likely weekends at the moment are the 14/15th or 21st/22nd March 2009, how do those dates fit?

14/15 would be good for me. but then i'm easy.

And the list looks good too!

I'm good for both weekends, but the 15th is further from the end of term so might be better for me :)

Looking forward to the prospect of this already - should be a good weekend :D

14/15 is good for me as well. At least 3 of those items are on my list to learn so ideal. Like the idea of providing a list of items to bring as I'm sure part of this is storing knowledge for use at a later date not getting everything sorted over a weekend. March can't come soon enough, but I have a list of other mini projects to tackle in the months ahead. Just happy I've managed to get my westy in a domestic garage for the winter . Thanks for taking the time and trouble to sort this, really appreciated

Anyone want to align bore a case for me

seriously though could supply a long block for playing with...

would really like to learn the finer art of panel beating and tips on welding would be good aint done it in years and could never get the hang of it (mind you arc welding with damp rods on some dubious metal)...

Aaron, I can bring my MIG if there is any demand for it - either practising on scrap metal or doing bits on peoples buses if they like :)
