Why do people buy 2nd hand goods that cost as much or the same as new.

I was just tracking an item that would cost £50 new and went for a couple of quid less. Do people not do their homework or is it just me ???

Was that the item I watched go this evening too?

I put a bid in on something but got bored at about £25. Like you say, it costs about £50 new and went for £45 including post.

I think it has a lot to do with the ease of which you can buy on the internet now too....theres no need to get off your arse and get it....

must admit it always makes me laugh some of the stuff that sells and for that some of the claims of sellers.....

Some people definately don't do their homework with regard to prices. I think though some people also get caught up in a 'bidding frenzy', and keep thinking 'well I'll just bid another pound' etc as they don't want to lose.

There is sometimes a bit of 'bid rage' as I call it where someone becomes bitter that someone else has outbid them, like when you overtake someone on a motorway and they start speeding up to get back in front. It becomes personal and sometimes they will pay whatever to be the winner. If your a seller this situation is great, ive just sold a tatty owners manual for my Sunbeam Alpine for twenty odd quid, there was a bidding battle between 2 bidders even though there was an imacculate one with a buy now of £19.99  Check out the Bay clock with a buy now of £100 quid that is still for sale, a similar one went for a lot more with a low start price auction, dont make sense.

have to agree with aaron..people just can`t be bothered to get off their butts. Factor in a few beers on a saturday night /sunday afternoon and if your a seller then you`re on a winner. My wife always sells so that her auctions end on a sunday just after sunday lunch. Also the bid rage theory has got to be true

Bast one is the Bently books - going on Ebay for £40 plus postage when you
can get them from Amazon for a fraction of that - and it's new

my best ever was a pancale filter a got from gsf when i just started out with air cooled for my bug,i soon found out it ran like a sack of sh!t,so stuck it on ebay and got £35,it was also the thing that got me selling on ebay.but on the other hand ive done the same(very recently) not looked it to something and payed over the odds

at the same time ive got my exs engagment ring on ebay at the mo its in nearly new condition valued at 450 and its strugling to make £50

iv actually bought stuff brand new from vw and put it on ebay and doubled my money. i made a killing on golf r32 alloy door pulls. £2 each at vw as they realy are nowt special. £20 for four on ebay. i sold a good few sets of them until others caught on and the arse fell out of it.

i made a good few bob selling stainless wheel nut kits for vespas. basically bought 500 from screwfix, put them in bags of 20 and made a fortune. one day rodney we'll be millionaires

ive seen the vw stainless nut/bolt repairs kits for bumpers and body going for rediculous amounts, i mean you could go to your local fasterners suppliers and buy the lot for £30 when they are selling for £80+.
