Hey guys,
Not been on for a while, looking at replacing the ignition on my 71 bus. Going to go electronic. looking at different makes that are available. I have come across EMPI ACCU-FIRE for £39 but all other makes seem to be around £65. Has anybody had any experience with the EMPI as this is well within my price range.

Thanks

Mark

TBH I wouldn't buy anything with EMPI on it.

Pertronix seems to have mixed reports, I've run it for years without a problem on a few dubs.
A mate was left stranded after his 'Flamethrower' coil packed up a couple of weeks ago,
but I've always used a good 'ol Bosch blue.

Others to look out for are Compu-fire (mainly US) and Lumenition.

thanks for the help. Just about to have a look at lumenition, have come across this make in the past. Also how can i tell what dizzy i have. I know i have a vacumm cylinder on the side but not sure if its 009. I feel stupid asking these simply questions.
Thanks

If it has a vac unit it's not an 009, check the part no on the body of the dissy - Pertronix isn't made to fit all types.

Stupid people don't ask questions.

ok, best place to buy pertronix electronic ignition, not the full kit with dizzy just the internal parts.
Thanks again guys

ring them with your dissy part no.

Don't connect the two wires wrong, that'll kill it instantly - reset your timing after fitting.

JK do either vac advance or 009 petronix units, I have used both and found them to be great, no more hot start problems and no more setting points 8)

What sort of price are you looking at for the electronic ignitions?
Are they a straight fit to standard dizzy's?
Is the added reliability worth the extra cost and is there anything else that can help?

They're around £60-65

In my experience - easier starting (first turn of the key) slightly better MPG,
fit and forget - no more points, dwell and setting timing.

Some people have had bad experiences with them and will tell you to keep points and a condenser handy.

Direct fit to 009 and some vac dissys.

I have just had pertronix fitted from machine7 to my 009 dizzy, and I believe the unit is compatible with either an 009 or SVDA.

ive been advised go for a 009 with compufire rather than pertronix, i really want this  http://www.123ignition.nl" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but the engines being built in the US and compufire seems to be what they recommend.

Just ordered one of those :D
2-3 week delivery time tho :(

i was advised that with twin carbs drilled and tapped the vacuum can be eratic at best and better to stick with Non vac :? what do you think?

Anti-pulse valve in the vaccuum line and it works well for most people I've spoken to.

In a bus I'd go for the vac, with the valve ASH mentioned ;)
