This is being put up on forums by the mag publishers so I thought I'd post it here as well ;)

Do you have a big passion for the VW scene? Are you fanatical about all forms of the VW Bus?
Do you have very good English language and literature skills?
Can you take a good photograph?
If you have said yes to all of the above, we may have just the job for you.

Volkswagen Camper and Commercial magazine (http://www.volkswagencamper.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) are looking to hire a Deputy Editor to work alongside the Editor.

Applicants will need a clear vision about the identity of the magazine and the needs of its readers. Be passionate about the VW scene, and specifically the bus scene. A high level of literacy and grammatical skills and ability to inform and entertain readers is essential.

You will need the knowledge of what makes a “good” VW Camper feature and find fresh angles to structure these. Be able to convey knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for the VW Bus in all of its forms, both in talking with readers and in the writing of features.

A sound knowledge of key features of each generation of VW Bus (T1 through to T5) and understanding the appeal of the marque and how it has evolved. You should be able to converse and establish face to face rapport with VW Bus owners of all ages and have a “finger on the VW bus scene pulse” and know about trends, developments, and common modifications. You must be approachable and available to meet and interact with readers and owners face to face.

Other desirable qualities are a journalistic background with published articles, ideally motoring related. A thorough and detailed knowledge of VW Bus history, specifications, model types etc.

Desirable but not necessary qualities are that you own, drive and maintain a VW Bus.
Have some technical knowledge and understanding of basic mechanics and restoration issues and the ability to talk about this with owners and answer simple questions. Have contacts and networks with individuals and organisations from both the UK and International VW Communities. The job is full time and based in our head offices near Chester.

Please send CVs and current salary to: David Gamble, Publisher, The Old School, Higher Kinnerton, Chester CH4 9AJ or email [email protected]

 It sounds a cool job, the only thing I always wonder about these kinds of jobs is if they take away the passion. I once trained as a Windsurfing instructor, seemed pretty glamorous but the reality was that you'd teach people when the conditions were great and just wanted to be out yourself :(
When your passion becomes your job, does it become less appealing?

That said, it's gotta beat school teaching
I have the english skills but not the VW knowledge, damn :(

having taught feckless yoofs for 30 years I can say yes its much better and more fun and not stressful (except at deadline time when you realise you should have paced yourself!)
does it kill the passion
no for sure :D fuels it instead!!
but like any job there are times when you think its tiresome and you sit at keyboard thinking what can I write about this bus....

what now fella?

saying that setting up Helens workshop at the mo and really fancy building a big enough kiln to handle some serious sculptural glass casting, cant be arsed working for a living anymore

Id love this, ive had articals in print, can take a decent photo and tick nearly all the other boxes (whats a T5? )
Pity its about 5 hours away from home. Well that and the fact ive got no qualifications for this type of work.

Would love to do it. No journalistic qualifications, apart from producing and Editing the Club magazine for the Dorset Austin A30 & A35 Owners Club for the past 14 years!! Must be crazy!!!

..........Might get confused with a T5 and a Transit though!

Such a shame, I have the journalism background, the writing and photography skills and the passion, it's just in the wrong part of the country!
