Feul gauge bounces with indicators..... why?

Hi,
I'm just beginning to get into sorting the gremlins on a 71 I bought in the autumn.

The seller said it needed a new voltage regulator and it does have charging issues, but I think some of it is a duff battery not holding charge.
So today I jump started it and started checking everything out. Almost everything works... and the indicators had worked in the autumn, but now when I turn them on the feul gauge starts jumping..... dows anyone know the obvious cause of this before I start pulling things apart, please?

I also have no wipers, but that maybe a seperate issue and possibly just the spindles.

Twist the fuses in the fuse box, wd40 etc, i expect everything will start to work

Try the earth connection on the back of the dash cluster.
