FYI

I imported my locking shifter last year when the dollar/pound rate was around the 1.75 mark so more favourable than it is now. I also got stung £60 on Import Duty. Take this into account when importing a £400 shifter.Des
Thanks. The tax becomes a large factor because you pay import duty on the cost of the item itself and then VAT on everything, so you're effectively paying VAT on the duty...so you're being taxed on a tax!!! :(

prowagen are selling berg shifters now, bought a berg deep sump from them last year, great service. may be able to get group discount from them if enough people are interested.

Doesn't look like they do locking bus shifters? I've not heard of this company but will give them a ring and see what they offer.

I've just spoken with Robert from Prowagen and he will check things out and get back to me later today. The last thing he knew was that Gene Berg were having problems sourcing the locking mechanism. In my emails to Gene Berg they say they are expecting a delivery soon so hopefully this might be shaping up as something that might come together.

a group buy with the eb logo 8)

i can produce a autocad file for the logo for the mill if needed :msn4:

i haven't ordered yet as and if they are short on parts it might not be ready for my crate.

asking for a hands up on this who would be interested? i for one

i doubt we could raise 15 people as its such a high price object.

I've just heard back from Rob at Prowagen and he is going to get in touch with Gene Berg. I'll update when I know something.

would it be worth starting a new thread to see how may people would be interested?

Johnny has already offered to post a sticky for this but I was waiting for something definite to go on before asking. I don't want to raise false expectations.

Best option still seems like prowagon and I'm still waiting for them to get back to me. Rob did say it might be a day or two as he is dealing with Gene Berg trying to put something together.

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the delay with this but I am on the case, just awaiting a response from Al @ the Bergs.

I am honestly not sure what pricing we can get as even being a dealer our discount level is no greater than what you are being offered.

In the mean time if those that are interested can post their name, year of van and LH or RHD in a list along with if they want just the normal GB logo or something different.

Cheers,
Rob.

Sorry Guys but I am afraid it looks a bit bleak on the locking shifters, here is a reply I recieved from Al at the Bergs:

Hi Rob,

Well, since they spoke to us the situation has changed, and we only have non-lockers available. We will be casting more bases, but maybe after sumps. We have had to find a new foundry as the previous one closed last month. On numbers we would have to see how many were ordered.

to which I replied:
Whats the ETA on locking bases?

And got back:
Several months at best.

So all I can do is keep you guys posted when the Bergs get locking bases in. If you are wanting me to do this drop me an email with your details and I will keep you on file to get back to.

In the mean time anyone that need/wants a standard bus shifter can email us on [email protected]

Thank you,
Rob.

I don't really know what to do with this now. I liked the idea of the locking shifter as it adds a degree of security. If I just go for a non-locking shifter then I guess I'd go for something else, maybe a CSP?

Why? The Berg non-locking shifter is amazing ;)
Price I guess...but then I have no experience of either!

Prowagon are selling non-locking Gene Berg shifters at £275 and Machine7 have CSP for £225.

I've emailed Rob @ Prowagon to see if there is a deal for a group buy.

That's a pain eh? I wanted the locking variety for a means of security more than anything. I for one will wait till they are being made again. You never know, the pound may be stronger then as well. Any way thanks for all the chasing up that you have done.
Cheers
Carl
