Hi,

Just got my first bay and its not yet registered.

Got the title deed MOT and insured it but the dealer i got it off keeps saying he is waiting for a 368 form from customs or something.

I've been waiting a month now is this guy messing me about and can i get it registered without this document?

Cheers

Dave

Hi,

Yer i thought as much but does it really take this long to get this form back from customs?

Thanks

Dave

Customs are a law unto themselves, there is really no point in harrassing them as they will just make you wait longer......

Give it a week or so more and then perhaps put in a nice polite phone call, see what happens.

good luck.....

thanks guys apparently lots of people are waiting for stuff from them so i guess i'll have to wait but my insurance runs out on monday if i dont have a uk registeration doh!

Got mine back after a couple of weeks, but i did deal with customs directly.

I'd chase up if i were you.

While we're on the subject, does anyone have any links to documents detailing what the process involves when importing a camper from abroad?

I've done a bit of research into importing from the US but is anything different involved when importing from inside the EU? (IE Holland)

Are the import duties / taxes the same when importing from elsewhere in Europe as when importing from America?

Thanks (And sorry for hijacking the thread)

When importing from within the EU no import duty or tax is payable. You have to fill in a declaration form and have proof that it came from that country (i.e.. registration document).

If you look on the DVLA site all the information is there. :D

Reading this again you need to chase the dealer who imported the van.

Has he sent payment off to them.

Get on the case to put your mind as ease as you don't want to have to pay the taxes out of your own money if agreed as part of the sale.

It may be an honest delay but where money is involved i wouldn't sit back anymore.

If you get stuck let me know as i'll dig out the number of the customs office in Dover so you can see if they can give a clue as to whats happening.

Mike

Sounds like bull, as far as I know they won't let you take the van from the docks without paying the duty first.

Remember you'll need to make two trips to the DVLA, the first one with all your documents which they will keep but give back to you when you take the vehicle for the inspection. It will be legal for you to drive the van to the inspection with no plates (just like its legal to drive a plateless van to a pre booked mot)

Hi,

Yer i might have to call customs and chase it myself if i dont get it soon as its been a couple weeks now but like you said he must have paid or he wouldnt have been able to get it out of the docks.

I didnt think you had to take it for inspection just the documents? I dont think my mate did with his ratty 71!

My van was brought into the UK with no taxes paid. The import was on a holiday visa and so no taxes needed to be paid as it didn't intend to stay.

Don't get me wrong the seller had no intention of shipping back, it was just a way of him not having to pay out of his back pocket.

I had to pay this to keep in the UK but knew in advance. I think my purchase was quite rare but admit that customs won't release a vechicle if intended to stay in the country without payment.

Just call the seller and explain your concerns.

Just checked your photos out on the gallery section.

Didn't realise it was the deluxe brought in by Simon.

If indeed it's the same bus by the same person you should have no problems with anything.

Depends where you go, but sounds like most of them are getting arsey and want to do inspections.
We take ours to lincoln because its a lot quieter than nottingham, if we were registering three or so at a time they would only want to inspect one but seems now they want to look at every one.
It's hardly an inspection, its just a quick look at the chassis number to see if its dodgy. You can get them to do you the paperwork that allows you to get plates made on the day as well.

If its not yet registered am i not suppossed to be driving it then?

My insurance company said its fine for 3 weeks but i have to get it registered before the 3 weeks are up which is monday!

already done that mate.

stand to loose a few quid on it to which isn't good.

at least its not the vw season so its not like i need to be using it although i have been out on a few sneaky runs just for fun.

The only times you are allowed to drive an un-registered van is to a pre booked MOT or a pre-booked DVLA Vehicle Inspection.
Any other time is naughty naughty unless you have trade plates.

The three week thing might apply if your are foreign and bring your car over? Although I'm assuming you'd need to have the vehicle registered to you in the country that it came from? I remember seeing a thread on VZi about driving on the foreign plates.

To be honest, is there any point risking it?

Edit:
And if you are going for a cheeky run, stay away from saxondale roundabout on the A46 between Newark and Notts because I've seen VOSA cars knocking about there a fair few times.

yer not taken it far just back from where i got it from and running it around the village.

cant wait to get it registered.
