Isn't it always the way, the jobs you think will be easy never quite work out that way?

I have just taken delivery of my new TMI door cards and seat covers, started fitting them this evening. I have replaced the rubber plugs in the door and have found that the metal clip which goes on the door card is a very very tight fit in the plug. So much so that I have stopped out fear of breaking the board of the door card. Are there any tips or special methods for doing this seemingly easy job? I have tried to pinch the clip with pliers but the clip breaks. I am also a little worried that once it goes on, it will never come of again without damaging the door cards (that I've just waited 6 weeks for and they weren't cheep).

Any advice much appreciated

Do you have the correct clips and bungs?

If you do line them up give them a good thump with your hand.

i got the door cards, bungs and clips all from VW heritage. I assume they are right but I will call tomorrow and see what they have to say.

I'm sure there are different size bungs/clips :?:

There are, I tried to use bungs I had from my old oval and they were too big.

I spoke to VW heritage today and they insist that there is only 1 size. I tried to put a clip in one of the door holes without the rubber bung and it was still almost impossible.

anybody else got any ideas?

Ask machine7 their's might be different....

Don't even bother to use the new bungs - there is no way the clips will go into them because they are designed for a different type of Brazilian door. God knows why Heritage et al keep selling them
For the past 30 years I've just cut small squares of proper gaffer tape (the thick stuff) and stuck them over the holes. Pierce each one with a small bradawl and just push the clips through. The tape protects the paint and seals the clip. The bonus is that you can get them out easily when (not if) you need to fix locks etc. Make sure you have a good sealed polythene sheet membrane behind the cards or they will soon get wet and warp.

I've had the bungs and clips from VW heritage and the bungs were no use at all. I just ended up pushing the clips directly into the holes in the door. I didn't fit the polythene membranes and as a result my expensive TMI door cards turned to mush after 4 years.
I've just had some cards made out of 4mm ply and found that the clips dont have a large enough gape to fit.

Anyone know where I can get clips to fit 4mm board that will still fit the holes in the doors?

Top Tip - B&Q for polythene dampliner, held on with clear gaffer tape does the job nicely.

Did mine today.

Just used boat varnish on the back of mine, then spray glued thin insulation on to make it quiet & warm.
