I've never imported before
What are the do's and donts
Also what u chaps think of this rust
What would u do with it

Good buy that van..!! Saw it on Samba.com and loved it..!! 8)

I'd Keep the patina and anchor it..!! (unless it's gone to far in places??) :D

I'm not importing it
If been offered a couple of westys
This is one of them , prob is I don't know nothing about purchasing an imported bus
Also don't think the wife would let it stay like that she would won't it resprayed
I'm wondering if that rust is a bit to severe even for me ?

looks like the rust has been painted on?? get more pics of inside, underneath etc before purchase

As for importing, bought mine once in uk from an importer in Warwickshire and did registration etc myself.

I heard horror stories but actually it was really easy!

You need title of deed ( our V 5)
Tax import papers with VAT/Tax having been paid
Mot
Insurance
Forms from dvla which need to be filled out and thats about it.

As for the mot, brake lights need re wiring and new headlamps will be needed, any bad rust etc will need sorting on chassis/jacking points etc. Check all cv boots, ball joints etc.

When i got stuck, i searched or asked on the forum and hey presto help was at hand!

Good look in your search bud!!

importing is easy i did mine myself the paperwork this end has got a bit more tricky now i believe, c&e 386 replaced bysome nova thing? and most local dvla offices due to shut so post only......... graham off midland early bay may be worth a pm.

Cheers Ricky
Chatting to James already, all DVLA offices are now shut so it's postal applications only now and yes rather than a 386 you now get a number with a nova reference number on it that DVLA are supposed to accept but there's already a few issues with that.

Yes thanks Ricky been chatting to graham, n been very helpfull !
Not found the right bus yet but nice to know there are people around who can sort out importing if needed ;)

I was offered a nice solid 72 westy with new roof canvas, type 4 motor & partial interior for reasonable money the other day!!!
I can get you in touch with the seller if you like??

Hi,

Nice patina! Our US friends use a product called CLR to clear rust, I have seen it done on a similar condition westy, which was then waxed, it came up a treat. Though you can't get it in the UK, readilly available over there. Maybe try and get someone to ship over some "samples"

Here are a few links:

I can't find the thread i am thinking of, but you may find it yourself in the links above.

Cheers,

Alistair
