Hi all. When i go on steady run somewhere, for example santa pod, which is around 70 miles from me,my pick up starts to cough and splutter as if im gonna run out of fuel.Yet,on the way home,it was fine.Ive been told its because the coil gets to hot and cannot create a spark,or something like that!.. :? .so,can someone tell me about these blue coils you can get,and why they are different to normal ones.Would appreciate it.
cheers. Si.

There was a time when a Bosch blue coil was a high quality replacement/upgrade that would put out a higher voltage than the standard coil & that would allow you to make the spark plug gap a bit bigger - not sure the current collection of Brazilian/spanish/mexican repros are in the same league.

Not sure why it would be ok on the way back but not good on the way there - unless it was uphill all the way????

Sounds like a full service would be a good start?

yeah, might do that. When i pull over and give it ten mins to cool,im on my way again no probs....strange tho. :?

Like loxy said the blue coil has abit more of a punch than the standard coil. Perfect for a standard or mildly tuned engine, can't comment much about the quality but i fitted 1 with my new engine and has'nt ben any hassle. But a service and tune up would help alot i reckon

Be it a blue coil or not, if it gets hot and then fails to provide a fat spark, then it is faulty and needs replacing! From what you have said, it sound like the coil. Runs fine, gets hot, starts missing or cuts out. Leave it a bit so it cools down then have the same scenario again. My moneys on coil. You don't NEED a blue coil, they never left Hanover with one, just a standard OE coil that is not faulty. Fingers crossed. And as the others said, a basic service/tune up would perhaps be in order as well.
