Good website, I recently bought the Spec guide book to decode my Mplate as well, it gives more detail about the codes and changes than the website (though it uses a lot of Vincent's research too.

if any one has a plate they'd like decoded send me a photo of it or write out the coding exactly as it appears (the layout is important) and I'll have a look

Steve..
Wouldnt mind some help with mine as most aren't listed
on Type2

M codes--020 043 061 196

Cheers,
Snakey

No problem...

020 = speedometer and odometer in miles

043 = not sure on this one, it is on the Mplate of a 1968 Swedish Kombi I decoded the other day though

061 = Type labelling of seat mounting and identification plates for England & Irelend

196 = nothing listed for this one either

not a massive help, I'll add the codes with nothing listed to my list of unknowns :wink:

Craig

213 is 'without rubber mat in passenger compartment' UK

I have only just checked mine after 3 years ... i have been busy ..

My plate reads like this : ( as far as i can tell through the hammerite! )

02 233 115
2451 C96 042 141 191

25 5 7481 EN 2340 11

Hi Hilly

Speedman is your man for this send him a PM, but if you can get in the site above is pretty useful, not sure why its not working!

0 = 1970 model year
2 = type 2
233115 = Chassis number

2451 This would normally be a set of 6 digits ie 242451 would mean same colour (not sure what colour 24 is) upper and lower and 51 is dark biege leatherette interior.

C96 =
042 =
141 = heater vent into passenger compartment (rear)
191 = outer and inner under belly pans

25 5 = week 25 day 5 (Friday) of model year

7481 = temporary code

EN = Export to england

2340 = Kombi, sliding door left, RHD
11 = type 1 engine and manual gearbox

Sorry about the blanks, doing the rest from memory.

Here the codes for my westy, any chance a code guru could decifer it for me

02 107 122
517 51B
523907 D26 B67 026 507
02 4 7797 UT 2316 21

02 107 122
517 51B
523907 D26 B67 026 507
02 4 7797 UT 2316 21

Again, I would PM Speedman - a true gent and as you say a guru in this department. Alternatively I use http://www.type2.com/m-codes/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

0 = model year, 1970
2 = VW type 2

107 122 = Chassis number

517 = Campmobile
51B = (could this be 518?) Campmobile with poptop roof
523907 = Campmobile paint code for Pearl White, leatherete interior
D26 = D27 I cannot find, could it be 027 Emissions compliant with californian standards?
B67 = Westfalia campmobile SO67 interior
026 = "With activated carbon container for absorbing fuel vapour"
507 = vent wings in cab doors
02 = manufactured 2nd week of model year
4 = 4th day (Thursday) of production week
7797 = unknown VW code
UT = picked up by first owner from factory in Germany, meant for US market
231 = Kombi right hand lsiding door, LHD
621 = unsure but this denotes the engine tyoe and transmission.

Hope this helps, but as I said, Speedman is the guy for a more accurate translation!

Thats an easy one as it is so similar to mine!! (use http://www.type2.com/m-codes/index.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

2 = model year 1972
2 = VW type 2
070177 = chassis number

4747 = Neptune blue lower, neptune blue upper
51 = dark biege leatherette interior

A41 = Spec for UK, RHD headlights, speedo in miles
141 = heater vent to rear passenger compartment
191 = inner and outer under belly pans

48 = manufactured week 48 of model year ( I can never remember when weeks begin so won't try and work this out!)
2 = day two of manufacture yr, Tuesday

7473 = unknown code, possibly a temporary VW code

EN = built for export to England

234 = vehicle type - kombi, sliging door on left
011 = engine type - 47BHP manual transmission.

Hope this helps, again there are others who can be more accurate than me!
