Have mooved house and still trying to locate all my vdub manuals.

Checked the oil tonight (as oil light came on twice) and there wasn't a drop to be found.
So the question may be stupid but it could save my engine.

Do you check the oil level when the engine is hot or cold....

afaik, eng temp is irrelivant.I think its more a case of not checking the oil level immeadiatly after the engine has been running as the oil won't have time to run down to the sump, thereby giving you a false reading.
I suggest you leave it at least 10 mins with the bus on a level surface - always wipe the dipstick first ( as the stick will have oil splashed up it,once again=false reading) then take your oil level reading.
hth

generally check it warm after a short run leave it to stand on level ground to cool for 30 mins then check it.....

Thanx for the info.

Did all suggested.
