Mould in engine bay

I seem to have mould on the left wheel arch in the engine bay. Why?

Gotta be the coldest area where any warm air could rest. Is there any sign of dampness ? Especially from the air vent above! I’ve heard of some peeps having to block off their air vents for the winter when not using their vans specifically because of rain blowing in, plus you got a nice big battery on the other side. Good job you’ve spotted it before it becomes a you know what sort of issue.
