morning all,
well after a couple of hours in the snow the engine is out and on the floor and the fuel tank standing beside it!

im after opinions, the top breather (biggest one in the centre) has split so obviosly gonna replace that but i took some pics of my tank and am wondering if i do in fact need a new one,
here they be (apologies for the poor quality pics)

there's very light surface rust on the tank, but no holes or sign of leakage

Just pull the gauze filter and sender and plug the holes. Throw some clean petrol in and slosh it around. Empty, and replace filter (OK to reuse if not damaged and clean) and slap it back in, replacing any damaged hoses etc. Unless you are able to find a proper VW tank that is new you are going to be spending a lot of un-necessay cash. An inline filter between the pump and carb should provide added peace of mind.

thanks for that alikat,

tried finding new hoses or rubbers for the breather system on the web last night but no luck.

any suggestions people?

You are lucky having a crossover 8) they have the same hoses as latebays up to 74 available from Heritage, I only discovered this by accident after replacing the main filler hose a couple of times but never getting a leak-free seal
