The oil filler neck is loose on my Early Bay - a bit of green stuff between it and the main neck came loose and fell off and the neck now wobbles around - what should I use to secure it or seal it?

There is a special tool that fits inside the filler neck to enable you to tighten it. However as it sounds like the sealing ring has fallen out you may need to put something in its place even if its some PTFE tape or similar (at least as a temporary fix - to save you having to take it all apart off the engine to fit a new seal/tighten it). The fillers are notoriously hard to get off and sometimes equally hard to tighten down but you may be lucky. :D

The "special tool" you can make yourself.

Using a light and a mirror, look inside the filler hole and you will see its attached by a simple ring with two slots in it. You just need to cut a piece of metal or find an old chisel or whatever, that is the right width to engage the slots and unscrew the ring.

There is a gasket that fits between the filler and the stand. Its a card gasket so, if necessary, you can make one from cornflake packet type card if you don't want to order and wait for one.

Hi!

OK, so if you had the tool, can you unscrew it all and remove it without anything falling inside the engine? Mines leaks too.....

Cheers,

Alistair

Yup :)
