Decided to buy a welder to do the repairs to my Bay resto. Saw a link on VZI about a place offering cheap tools (welder, drills etc).
Had a look on the site and the prices were to good to be tru so i bought a Wolf 105 Turbo GAS mig.
Rung up and ordered it, just to make sure it was what it said it was, and paid. Was asked if i wanted express delivery for an extra £** and said no, was told it would be here in a maximum of 10 working days (2 weeks) and 2 weeks later (the maximum time) it turned up.
Great, time to make a real start so i unpacked it all only to find, the Gas bottle, the Regulator and the spool of wire that was all included (and one of the reasons i choose this welder) were all missing.
Rang up the helpline and after being put on hold for about 10 - 15mins eventually got through to someone who then had to pass me onto someone else, who then siad that they would get the parts to me within 5 working days.
Couldn't really wait so went to Halfords and bought a gas bottle (or 2) a regulator and some wire so i could make a start on the bodywork.
Set all the equipment up and nothing, the wire was feeding into the lance but not feeding out of the nozzle , you could see the wire folding itself up inside the lance!
Another phone call (and another gods knows how long on hold) to get through to the Tech dept' who then starts describing a completely different machine, so i tell him what machine it is and he asks me (Off the record) if i knew what the fault was! :x So i told him if i knew what was wrong i wouldn't be wasting my time talking to him. Was offered the chance to return it to them so they could repiar it and then send it me back but i would have to pay the postage! Told him to forget it i wanted a full refund only to be told he would have to hand me over to someone else  .
This guy had it both barrels and told him to arrange a courier to come and collect it and give me a full refund.
Courier came the very next day (10 days to deliver 1 day to collect) so i'm now looking for another welder, using a mates Clarke 130 at the moment and its the dogs danglies.

Rant over

I got a Sip MigMate 130 Gas Mig from Halfords for £150, the little gas bottle it came with was crap, so I got a bigger Sealey refillable one. The earth clamp left a lot to be desired so I got myself a decent one for a fiver, job done. It has been really reliable and has done every job on my bay well.

How much welding have you got to do frogster??, a bit or loads??
2 x battery trays, 2 x rear corners, 2 x wheel arches (although these will be cut to suit), inner & outer sills bith sides, thats just the back and sides. Theres also bits and peices on the bodywork and then theres the front steps, front lower valance and the panel underneath it, jacking points and small repairs to the floor.
Is this a lot? Bay has stood for 14 years so it could be worse

That's sh1t dude - get yourself to your local MachineMart and get one there... my Clark 105EN was from MM and has been perfect to date...

;)
Is 105 Amps enough for chassis? saying that the mig i've just sent back was 105 so....

Never buy a welder you have never heard off.... :D

Cebora are made by snap on and are very reliable...

It is good to buy off the high street like machine mart/halfrauds cos they are big companies....

Go on to this forum:

Loads of info about various welders & you can even buy a welder from someone who knows what's what.

ive ordered a Portamig 181 from Steve on here (weldequipe) ive heard nothing but good things about them, they can go down to 20 Amps (not many hobby welders can), and are british made so you know they are quality. Slightly expensive but worth it for good welds.

Think im going to go and pay Machine Mart a visit, definately looking at a Clarke machine (from both the write ups and the one im currently lending).
Does the EN models come as GAS or GASLESS, as it says it can be converted to Gas, i'm hoping that this means i'll just need a regulator, gas wire and gas bottle (already have these so if thats all it needs then i'm in business)

My EN is a gasless model - it comes with the tube for gas sticking out the back so I guess you'd just need the bottle and regulator... but don't quote me! The guys in MachineMart are always very helpful - why not take the bottle and reg' that you've got with you and see what they say?

(((If you've still got the Wolf 105 welder try this first, you should have a way of tensioning the wire to stop it spooling up inside when it gets jammed.Set it just right so it slips when it gets stuck.

To get the wire through the end you will have to remove the screw on tip first. Before you feed the wire through straighten the end as much as you can. When it comes out the end,put the tip back on.Also make sure you have the right thickness wire for the tip.You won't get .8 wire through a .6 tip ! You probably have a .6 tip fitted as standard.)))

Edit-ignore the above bit I just noticed your last line in the first post you've sent it back.

I've got a snap on turbo 130 made by Cebora (the same welder is used under many different names) which I bought 10 years ago for £280,it's pretty good.Have to change the liner about once a year or two but they're only a few quid.
