As LastFM will be a paid for service soon and it hasn't been that great lately, I decided to research another service.

http://www.we7.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I've been listening to this all week, works pretty well and plays a massive variety.

All free too :)

Planet Rock all the way for me!
Alternatively I use YouTube playlists in combination with the ScrewAds Chrome extension.

I do like a bit of PlanetRock, but I also like the instant variation you get with online streaming. For example, I hear a song I like, so I click 'thumbs-up' and that will influence what other bands will be played.

So you can get from Walls of Jericho > KoRn > Limp Biskit > The Offspring > Avril Lavigne :lol:

Since they canned pandora in the UK (sob sob) I've been using Jango which is a good alternative

I did look at Jango, but looking at it again, I can't remember why I chose WE7 over it :|

It might have been that WE7 promotes the 'personal DJ' aspect of the service and Jango looked a bit more like a static playlist - it probably isn't, but WE7 had all the right messages to try first.

Just climbed out from under my rock here in Canada :oops: ... thanks for the links. I didn't know sites like this existed :msn4:

The problem I have with all of these type of streaming sites is the quality of stream, it is just so low bit that you lose too much. In other words unless it is back ground it sounds crap.

I stream in my house via a mybook live and all my music is in either apple lossless or FLAC, I hate poor quality recordings, even DAB is poor compared to a good quality FM signal.

This is my streamer:
Naimuniti with Spendor S6e's.

http://www.8tracks.com 8)

Its basically playlists people make up and can be searched via artist or genre, no need to sign up or anything

http://www.grooveshark.com

Just like spotify only online,

I do pay for spotify, to me its worth it but can see why it would be a rip off for others.

Hope that helps someone out!

Cheers man!

just jammin.... :)

It sometimes helps to add a switch (net gear) and i always hardwire to you system.

If you are streaming direct from the internet then it will only be as good as the connection. I gave up on Internet radio for this reason.

Wifi is notorious for packet drop and latency - first try switching your wireless channel as when set to auto they can still settle on something unsuitable, there are only 11 channels on 802.11g and in built up areas interference can be a problem - you can see what channel other wifi networks are using so try moving yours to a channel not in use, or try a hardwired connection as already mentioned

Thanks guys, I only wish I knew what u meant :lol:

Ill do some research this week ;)

Hi Just
To hard wire it is just a cable from your router to the compatible streamer or stereo. Look up netgear switch to even out sound. A good budget system would be:

http://m.richersounds.com/product/mini-hifi/marantz/mcr603/mara-mcr603-blk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

You would be surprised how good this sounds. Add a decent pair of speakers and a fm/dab ariel and this would do an amazing job.

Happy to talk Hifi :) busses first, Hifi second.
