Afternoon all. After spending many many (many) hours browsing this fine forum - the question is 'How many of you go camping (or have been) in a panel van?' How 'dark' :msn4: is it etc - I don't want to go away for a weekend and return with SAD due to the lack of sunlight!

Additional pictures welcome

well if there was any way our bus could by sum miracle become a panel then i would go for it as those thermo matts drive me MAD :x

Used to do it years ago in a panel (tranny) Honestly didn`t think anything of it, but we was young  I`m just thinking back and can`t see any issues, if it was nice we had the door and back open and if it was pissing down, we`d generally bugger off somewhere and do something else, or just sit in the cab looking at the world going by :msn4:

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,, So where`s Grazy when he`s wanted ?????  ;)

my split panel was awesome to camp in, no messing around with curtains/ blinds other than the back window and the partition to the cab which had a slide along curtain.

you can eat youre dinner in peace without people peering in at you  ..and no one can see you scratching youre itchy bits in the morning..

Love It!! Most plus sides to camping in a panel van have been covered above, minimal curtains, privacy etc. We have been using ours for nearly two years and have found nothing to make us wish we had windows. There is only the two of us so no one sits in the back whilst travelling which is the only negative i could think of. We don't go away to sit in our van and always keep ourselves occupied but use an awning if weather is going to be temperamental. It also enables us to spread out and have space in the van. :D

IMO its not something you can be advised on because its down to your own needs/likes.

Some like it cosy and private others find it dark and claustrophobic. Some like to be able to look out the windows others are not bothered. I would recommend going to a show/meet and have a look and try for yourself. You will find most owners more than happy to let you sit in their van to see what its like. Dont expect rear passengers to be happy though

I think its a very individual thing, part of my enjoyment is waking up somewhere overlooking the beach in the bus and being greated with an amazing view rather than metal ;) i have gone for the best of both worlds and have limo tint on the rear and it stops prying eyes when your crow barring yourself into your wetsuit or you want a bit of privacy without the agro of putting the curtains up. 8)

I prefer the look of a panel but you cant beat a bit of glass for enjoying your surroundings

took the windows out and changed it back, its great.as said only 2 curtains to bother with, dont get woken by early sunlight and cos its paneled out recon its warmer as well 8)

This is Us , nice n private , Only down side is when weather is bad you cant sit and look out from the back , :(

Thanks for all the replies. Chooising a bus is more difficult than I first imagined (now looking to import from the US to avoid rust ridden UK busses).

After alot of thought - personally I'd be happy sat in the dark, but going camping/surfing etc could mean a considerable amount of time chilling in the bus with others..

Glass it is..

Now Westy or tin top?! :msn4:  :?: :!:
