I'm getting browned off with some of the parts that are just not of a decent quality ie,
Chrome stuff, hub caps, eyebrows etc that rust in a couple of weeks.
Window rubbers that fit badly and leak.
Latest thing is a gearstick extension, made of aluminium that has now become loose.
As this affects us all would it be a good idea if not to report where the crap has come from but to tell where the good quality parts can be got in some kind of listing.

When it comes to chrome - if it isnt original or an original that has been properly re-chromed - then dont bother with it, the price will be the giveaway ;)

When it comes to gear stick extensions..........

I think you get my drift, although to be fair its not completely true that only original will fit/last there are companies out there that make excellent quality aftermarket parts e.g. CSP & Gene Berg shifters. however the one thing that is pretty much true is if its cheap it probably wont last/fit......

when i was a kid and 'fiddling' with cars it wasn't an issue... everything we used was either blagged second hand or scrounged out of the scrappy... i had a number of years away from all this, and then when i got my bus i almost straight away had to order some service parts, just basic stuff, and my eyes nearly popped out of my head at the rubbish that was delivered :x

if i need a part now and it's the sort of thing that can be a 'used' part then i haunt the classifieds or if it's for now then as i said in another thread i have a 'breaker' who can usually hook me up with something to do the job properly.

if it's a service part, and it has to be new, then that's where my blood really starts boiling, 'cos unless you know to say GERMAN... BEST QUALITY... down the phone then opening the box becomes like some sort of shit lottery... you literally don't know what rubbish you're gonna get, and believe me i've had some rubbish delivered from some VERY reputable businesses in this country

i say... it's an old, classic vehicle... it's my own affectation that's making me want to keep it on the road (hahahahahahaha it hasn't been on a road for three years but you know what i mean) and therefore i should be (and indeed am) prepared to pay a premium for parts because they're not the sort of thing you can just pop into halfords for, and so i don't mind having to pay a 'proper' price for a part for a vehicle that hasn't been in proper production for 30 years... it's when i don't get the choice and i'm just sent shit that i get really mad :?

what did damon albarn say ? *modern life is rubbish* :|

I have stopped buying from a certain on-line retailer as the final straw was OE German hub caps that rusted faster than Brazilian ones. They were good enough to replace the set twice in 18 months after i complained but I have given up now. Both awnings broke (I now have a Khyam) and the utility tent's zip broke after one use.

I save and buy the best now

yep boils my piss,im sure that the german stuff used to be better, but i recon alot of it nowadays is as shit as the rest of it.you ever bought gsf repair panels?

You should see my aerial,it's the newest thing on the bus but the chrome failed to survive the winter-whats the point...sell me quality that lasts-I've spent enough getting a decent bus and want to improve it!!

just kampers jacking point the extended bit that goes over the chassis and along the cross member surely that should be dead straight, the old one is but this one is slightly twisted please advise cheers Frankie.

i too have stopped using a certain online retailer it was all crap
the awning was crap replaced with khyam
the rubbers are crap
the chrome is crap
the camping stuff all crap
dont get me wrong china makes quality stuff (just look at an ipod)
but i dont think they would be many bay windows left if they where made there

Mine was a german one from Status, £50, and fitted like a glove*

* Not like a glove at all, of course, just like a very good slider seal.

Is Status the place for window rubbers as well.

Bought some from.....well shall we say the online shopping place that has a forum that started good, got reformated and is now utter shit!

It was meant to be a sliding door seal for a T2, think it was for a bedford rascal. no way would it fit. As for the hupcaps, they arrived I opened the packet the air rushed in and they rusted in my hands

JK sell a budget slider seal that 'fits lhd and rhd' vans. I bought one for my old van, as it was a twin slider.
Consider the correct design of a slider seal and its clear its impossible to use them on either side, as they are handed and designed 'front' and 'rear' edges. It was rubbish.
