Bet you havent seen one of these before. It replaces the inner latch and has a handel/switch that allows you to open/lock the tail gate from the inside. £80 gets it posted. Will do a photo but its what it is, rare and ive only ever seen 3 and ive got one.

if this is what i think it is can i have first refusal please? looking forward to seeing the picture.

If the rear, passenger-compartment hatch is locked from outside, can one then open the hatch from inside, using the obove illustrated interior knob? :) 8)

I have no knob  So this lets you lock/unlock from inside? Is it normal to be able to open the hatch from the inside even when locked from the outside?

Are you ALL referring to the rear-hatch lock knob, or are some of you engaging in school-boy humour!?!

To the best of my recall, it’s possible to open the 1968~79 VW Type 2 cab doors from inside, when they are locked from the outside.

What is the VW Part Number, of this rear-hatch lock, and does it have any other distinguishing marks, such as a manufacturer’s logo?

I wonder whether it would be possible, to modify a conventional rear-hatch lock, to provide this facility!?!

Regards.

This morning, I checked both cab doors, of my 1972/73 VW Type 2, with regard to the door locks.

As I previously surmised, one can easily unlock both doors from inside, by unlatching the short lever, when they have previously been locked from the outside, using the key. Hence, if some unscrupulous individual were to shatter one of the cab windows, they could easily open the cab door, without a key.

A definite case for supplementary deadlocks and/or laminated side windows (can readily be cut to size by a glazier, from a large sheet) & windscreen or security film!
