Took my bay to my local classic VW garage to get an MOT. Needed some work to the rear shock bushes and came back with, what seems to me very long bolts to the bottom of the shock. Should it be like this?

Shock should be tight up against the bit next to it , no big gap - I think

Indeed.

Eden,

I wouldn't use that place again if their workmanship is of this quality. There are two length of shock bolts, maybe they have used the top for the bottom, bottom for the top.... God knows how they would have managed this though as the shock bush for the top mount would have been squashed to bits to even get the bolt in.

In this case I'd check the top mount as well.

It looks like the bottom shocker eye has a long insert(similar to 1303 rears) it could just the make of the shock.

I think Steve is right it looks like the shocks have got long inserts in the bottom, did they fit new buses or something??

Dare I ask who, pm me if you dont want to post on here,

Yes they did replace the bushes but I only expected them to replace 1 side which is what it failed the MOT on.
