Hi folks

And got me thinking ,if you can go this low with the ez ride kit why are most if not all slammed bays using the k&l set up ?.......Dave

I`m thinking the same .

Saving over the winter to swop to K&L set up .

Maybe the Red 9 would have clearence problems if it ran low , rack hitting the road ?

Will watch this for an answer .

lots of reasons, but my guess is cost and trust of the red 9 kit.

That right there is the Red-9 wishbone setup which is a few grand. The EZ rider kit will not get you down that low whilst having a decent ride. but it is a few hundred quid.

I am not sure how much a K&L setup will cost, but it is probably a little cheaper than the wishbone setup.

Edit, just looked on the R9 site again and you are right, they call them all the EZ rider kits - so my mistake!

Because the wishbone set-up uses ball joints I guess it suffers the same problem as going uber low on a Volkswagen ball joint beam, the ball joints will only travel so far before they bottom out causing a shit ride. Also I assume you can't go narrow with the Red 9 either? Which is part of the 'look' with slammed rides atm.

Spoken to Rob today who owns this bus 8) .
Although the beam is 40mm narrower than a standard bay beam running 5x112 there was issues with the Empi wheel offset et12 running this low. He said if the tubs where 1cm further out this would work but then you would have to do some fabrication to the bottom of the doors He said the ride was very good even this low but your limited to wheel choice..
Porsche wheels with a bigger et would work but then you have adapters thrown in so may be not.
As for the Early's running wide 5 by the time you've fitted adaptors your looking at the standard width anyway so a no no there......Shame because I like the concept of it all...so looks like linkpin is the King :lol: ...Dave

My 2" narrowed knl set up has run sweet for the past 4 years and I'm really happy with it.
You have to love the red 9 kit though, Simon has done a great job.

Don't know fella You've got to have a certain amount of narrow or tuck on the wheel to clear the inner arch but then it depends on what you call low...Dave

Virtually a delivered to the door bolt on jobby to fit a 72bay spindle to spindle just like the Ez-Ride kit ......Dave

I`ve got a rough price for both , K&L is around £300 cheaper ( £1600 ish ) .
Thats everything to change from a `72 crossover ball joint beam .

Worked it out with new/re con parts & buying flipped spindles with no exchange ( £550 on there own ).

The Red 9 is narrow enough with wheels i`m running .

Looking at it i`m worried about hitting the steering rack on the road .
My ball joint beam hits pretty hard , hence wanting/needing a change , a steering rack wouldn`t take the same abuse .

May just play it safe & go the tried & tested K&L route .

Yep... if you look at this pic it looks as though this is the lowest it will go with the shocks supplied.
I think the coil overs are wound right down here if the adjuster is on the bottom

id been thinking about doing this myself but asking red 9 a while back when purchasing the wishbone setup they said they wouldnt advise it as they dont know how it would affect the geometry. I think its a great idea and it looks like a straight forward bolt on. I dont think you could drive with it on the deck like that but the bags would be comfortable.

Question is how do you bag the back without some serious one off engineering? you can fit air shock as they arent beefy enough, you would need heim joints and to get rid of the torsion bars.
